the #1 rule of this class is to have fun.

The the way to have fun is to have a competitive class where everyone stands a chance of winning.
bruce, the way you serve that up gives me a golden opportunity to tear you a new asshole....but i had too much fun losing tonight so i'm in a good mood.

afaik, all the participants that took part in the stock motor challenge had a blast winning and losing. i know i did. i'm still trying to wipe the shit eating grin off my face. carlos, mike and i all agreed that we would love to continue racing until the wee hours of the morning if the track stayed open.

i would like to thank moni, mike, carlos, ember and bruce (embers father) for all showing up and getting involved and having fun. the amount of enthusiasm was phenominal and it was a great chance for all of us to tear up the quarter mile. well done.

Quite a few type 3's came stock with dual carbs.

And since Type 3s are considerably heavier than a Beetle, they don't have an unfair advantage when they have dual carbs.

\"The whole idea here is to give non-Hi performance VW engines a chance at the track.\"

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I'm glad to see someone understands my point.  If you want to attract stockers, leave the hi performance dual carb'd Beetles for another class.

This whole debate is just like the silly \"what is a street car\" on the CLF.  Over there they had cars with NO COOLING system claiming to be street cars, vying for the coveted CLF top 20 street cars class.

If you're gonna call it a class for stock engines, it should be at least close to stock.

What will a 1960s beetle with a 1600 dp, 009, 1 3/8 or 1 1/2 j pipes and header, power pulley, and dual dellortos or Kads44s (classed as a stocker) will do in the 1/4 mile?

I could make a car like that go mid 16s.
My first car was a 69 Beetle with an engine very similar to that.  The gearing of a 69 is taller than a 66 or older, so slower.  Also a 69 is heavier than an early 60s car.  I got 16.9s out of my car at Ashcroft (higher elevation = slower)

Not only was this class limited to \"stock\" engines, many of the partisipants (Silas, Simone, et.al.) have never been down the track.  Any seasoned racer knows that with practise comes significant improvment in your ETs, even if you make no changes to the car.  Since I've been racing for over 20 years, I know exactly how to extract the most from my car without experimentation.  My engine is totally stock, but my ETs were considerably faster than what Silas told me they were running.  I thought it better to not enter to give the newbies more competition.  The ear-to-ear grin on Silas' face was what prompted me to not be the \"ringer\" to take away the fun.

at the gcvws i got a chance to present all the participants of the stock motor challenge with their awards. each participant recieved an award, gold medal, and \"caution-do not lower windows at speeds in excess of 120mph\" stickers.

carlos - winner of the \"ran it/broke it/fixed it/ran it\" award. this guy is hardcore. broke his accelerator cable on his first run, sourced out a replacement cable from someone in the pits, re&re'd cable, and went on to make 2 more passes. he also had the lowest and loudest (stereo) car.

mike (gutterslug) - winner of the \"heaviest car/only type 3\" award. mike never got a chance to hit the scales, but we are estimating that his type 3 is at least 2000lbs...probably more, so he was at least 250lbs heavier than the rest of the cars. and he was running some super quick times. good job mike.

ember & bruce (her father)- winners of the \"farthest travelled/youngest driver\" award. they came all the way from quesnel. totally cool. and ember used to race snow mobiles and now she's piloting acvws...so you know she's going to kick butt. unfortunately i didnt see ember or bruce at the gcvws so i couldnt present them with their awards. if anyone knows how to get ahold of them, pm me so i can get them their goods.

moni- winner of the \"best rt\" award. at .254 moni was out of the gates quick which must have made for a great 60ft time. also, the fact that moni pulled her 67 out, got the permit, raced on friday and drove it all over the place the rest of the weekend was just awesome. great job moni.

silas- winner of the \"fastest mph\" award at 65.79mph and the \"lowest et\" award of 19.391. it took me about 19.391 to pull the horseshoe out of my ass too. i got lucky. the competition was fierce and all the times and mphs were close and consistent.

i hope to organize something like this again next season and possibly review the rules. hopefully we can get alot more cars out next time and have just as much fun.

again, i want to thank all the participants for their effort and enthusiasm. the stock motor challenge would not have been the same without you. what a cool bunch of people. smiles and good times all around.
