What's a good all purpose type of compressor? I am looking to use it primarily for running some power tools and painting (primer).

Avoid anything that's oilless.

Also depends what tools you want to run, an impact wrench doesn't need much but a DA sander needs plenty of CFM. Also check the CFM rating at pressure, some make lots @ 30 psi (OK for primer) but drop off drastically @90 psi where that sander runs. 7-10 CFM is usually plenty for home use.
