And does this "Vehicles, boats and aircraft acquired from private individuals or non GST registrants (purchased or received as a gift)" mean you can't gift vehicles anymore? So if I give the bike to my wife, she has to pay PST???

Does anyone know what happens when you have an insurance claim? Adjusters can be really sneaky about values.

I went way out of my way when this all started, to get the inspection done and pay my PST before the HST came in. I had already paid the GST at the border and could see the troubles coming if I didn't get it done before the HST started. Glad I did!

I would believe that if you have a reciept for the GST already that they adjust for that when paying PST today.  I had a situation where that was the case.

I can confirm what Alp said.
I have a car I bought in the early 90s when the PST was 5%.  Years later when I finally got around to transferring it into my name, the PST was at 7%.  I had the signed paperwork from when I bought the car, so the autoplan agent charged me tax at 5%.

Has anyone had any experience with the new dated transfer papers? I have had agents telling me they are only good for six months, and asking if I can get a current transfer paper signed by the registered owner.

I've had ignorant insurance agents tell me all sorts of stupid stuff.
The transfer papers I processed were about 12 years old.  It's a legal document.  Legal documents don't expire.  Try another agent.  Or tell him the previous owner is dead.

I've had an agent a few years back trying to convince me(with a great self-sense of authority, no less) that when you import a car from out of province/country, the previous owner has to personally come into ICBC office to sign papers. Some ICBC agents take human idiocy to a whole new level. Conversely, a knowledgeable one is worth his/her weight in gold.
