Alldrive Canada-Langley: Out of business?
« on: November 18, 2010, 06:46:05 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone in the Langley area might live near Alldrive Canada:  4053-208th Street.  I have a suspicion that they may have gone out of business this week. Can anyone swing by and see if it's closed?

I rented an RV this summer to tow my race Beetle out to the DVKK Strip Show and I've been trying to get my security deposit back ever since.

They also have a location in Airdrie, north of Calgary, so I'll be taking a drive out there tomorrow to investigate.

VISA says that they do not offer a credit back for any security deposits...only on goods or services.  Something to be aware of in the future...so much for the VISA Gold card >:(

Thanks!
Neil

The gates are open most days I drive by and the lot is still full of "Alldrive" RV's. The phone number on the gate is 604-514-2668

Thats horrible Neil.  A quick search on the internet shows many people also have the same problem.  Hopefully you can recover that deposit.

You need to everyday send a 50 page fax to them using your computer and on every page tell them you want your money back.

It seems some of those people have been able to get it back through their credit card company. I called langley today to see what the deal was. they said that they are sometimes open and sometimes not in Langley. Couldn't understand her all that well. She said they were having some problems. I said our friend was having some issues getting their security deposit back and asked how they should get that resolved and she suggested going through your credit company to get a "chargeback"(?).
Good luck with it anyhow. Seems the credit card company may be the way to go.

Always worth another try.  You'll get a different operator who may think differently.

Why tell them it was a deposit? Tell them it was a down payment or reservation fee.

First of all, I really appreciate vwboop for taking the time to phone the Langley outlet, as well as the rest of your suggestions and googling.  Here's the story of my investigation thus far:

1.  I drove out to Alldrive Canada's Airdrie, Alberta, location and it appears to be abandoned.  There are no RV's, no staff, snow drifts in front of the door and the trucking company that shares the lot doesn't know where they have disappeared to.  The office appears to be partly stocked or maybe they just mothball it for the winter.
2.  Calgary BBB has "information" that they may be out of business, due to non-response to complaints and no phone number listed with directory assistance.
3.  The Airdrie office does not answer the phone ever. Nor, emails.
4.  As Kevin mentioned, if you check complaints boards, there are many others in the same boat as me...both Airdrie and Langley...still can't get deposits refunded.
5.  I have spoken to three different RBC Visa Gold staff and all say that it is either too late (55 days since the transaction was processed) and/or they explain that security deposits are never covered by Visa...only goods and services, which I did receive in the form of my one-week RV rental.  Visa says that with any credit card, a deposit is not covered after the service is provided, and it is up to the vendor company whether they refund some or all of the security deposit.
6.  Visa directed me to small claims Alberta and they directed me to check bankrupcy Canada, but I couldn't get any information, as they charge a fee and I couldn't get the website to cooperate.

I will contact Visa again, explaining that the Langley store does have someone answering the phone sometimes and has RV's on site.  I guess I have to decide if it's worth it to pursue a claim with a lawyer, versus the amount that I am out of pocket so far.

Thanks again for your help with this matter!

Since Alldrive's Alberta office is mothballed for the winter, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Lower Mainland BC, since the Langley office appears to still be funtioning during the winter.  There is only one complaint record on the BBB site for the Langley Alldrive business, with the issue having been resolved.  Maybe mine will become the second resolved issue, but I'm not holding my breath...
