Rear Axle Nut Removal Tool?

Hi,

Anyone have this tool lying around that we can borrow?



We've used a cheater bar and had 2 guys standing on it (probably put out about 500ft.lb of torque) but still unable to get it off.

Please help!

Some times it's not the torque it's the shock. Have you got one of the slug wrench type wrenches? Use a 5 or so lb sledge on the slug wrench a lot of times this breaks them free. Use to do that all the time in the refinerys to break man hole bolts loose, 1 inch drive impacts wouldn't break them loose but a sledge hammer would!

Where bouts are you. I have something that should work if you can't find a Torqumeister tool.

i made my own slugwrench with a piece of 1/2" a.r. plate and a torch. it works awesome!!! and when in doubt, a cold chisel and hammer will also take that nut off, but will ruin it altogether. or you can heat the nut with a torch, but you risk heating the bearings and destroying the axle seals.

but over all, a good impact, and if that fails, a slug wrench. the other two options are a last resort thing

We tried hammering the cheater bar on a wrench. jumping on the cheater bar etc, and no luck.

I've simply used a 3/4 breaker bar with socket. I take the handle off of the floor jack for leverage.

I have a cheapo 3/4" socket set from Princess Auto for the big stuff. There is no 46mm, but the 45mm one can be persuaded on for a nice tight, no wobble or slip fit. I then slip a piece of pipe over the T Bar.

A little heat will work wonders as well. Get it red hot and douse it in WD-40. Works every time. Well most of the time.

Getting the nut red hot is ok if you intend to replace it.

Depending on how it cools, you may be altering the properties of the material, and not in a good way.

You should not need anything over 400F to break torque.  Red hot is twice that temperature.

I just took mine off with a 4ft breaker bar and a 8 ft pipe from my neighbours house ...no problem !!

Maybe you know someone with air tools? get an impact drill on there. My dad has an electric impact that always got mine off when i couldn't do it with the breaker bar.
