200HP=$$$$$$
« on: July 23, 2009, 09:49:20 PM »
Starting to think about my next project.So it's time to start hunting for parts.One of the goals for the car is to have 200HP.And since I have never built a big hp motor.I am a bit in the dark about the cost of it.It's going to be a summer only car.Would like it to cruise down the hiway with no problems,and maybe a few trips down the strip.So if anyone has built at big motor I would love to hear your ideas,thoughts and prices.And if a aircooled motor is going to be too expensive,then I might look at other ideas!!!!And as for the tranny,one thing at a time.Thanks guys,Scooby

building a big motor takes skill and knowledge they just don't bolt together ,those days are way over . cost 10k -15k if you have nothing .there is more than the motor to think about .like cooling ,fuel system ,ignition, transmission etc .if you have never ran a high strung motor on the street they require alot of maintance , adjusting and great tuning skill .and usally don't have a real long life span .

i would suggest building a 78/90.5 with a solid bottom end and spray it with 50-100 shot of nitrous at the track .way easier to build , less expence and the motor will still make tons of streetable power and run great on the streets and highway and be a animal at the track .

good luck .and start hunting for those parts . great canadian swap meet is a great place to start

That is as traight scoop as you can get.

You can probably build a 1915-2165 with 100 to 120 + hp  for less but, it is only as good as the weakest link and you measure that by $$$ and time.

If you think you're gonna build the engine first and run it for a while with a stock gearbox, it will work...... for a very short while.

It's possible to build a 200hp NA pump gas engine using off-the-shelf parts.
