today , i was working in the garage like i do every friday.when thank god a old buddy stopped by with a cold half sack.just what i needed.as we were enjoying a cold one we started talking about past trend/looks/performance etc.i must admit it really gets you thinking what you like and don't like.
for me i have always been a fan of a level lowerd car with the wheels in the frt tucked in,but the wheels have too fill the wheel wells fully so they match the shape of the fender at the frt and rear.as far as old trends i hate scallops and stamped loovers . with new trends i'm not really into the european look.
how about you-past /present/likes /dislikes/trends -????

The old Mulholland look was by far the most disgusting. Also the Hawaiian rubber has never been a favorite. I am a fan of the resto custom and German look. Getting kinda horny on the German Supers....which is weird for me to say. The new old school hot rod look is a bastardization of VW's as far as I am concerned. Although I do have an appreciation for anything done well. I really appreciate wrench time!

Nope.

Real 550's go for 150-250K.  So 6K for wheels is about right.  16\" Aluminum :)

I'm telling ya all, Fuchs, BRMS are all played out.  Those 16\"'s are IT!

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright (dr.evil style)...hey i got some original 72 beetle wheels that i suppose i could part with, the first $2000 takes 'em. i'm quite fond of the whole sleeper trashed car look. 63 primered grey or black...nice wheels though, lowered a bit, no interior just seats, ALL MOTOR...a rag top would be a bonus too but not nessesary.

I Dig the RAT look, resto custom is nice.  Cal look just isn't my style.  No problem removing the hood chrome but leave the sides.  Low, Clean, and fast.  Nothing better than driving a SLEEPER!  The poor ole 5.0's don't know what hit em.

Now buses..... do anything you want just so long as it can be undone.  same criteria as a Type 1, Low, Clean, and Fast.  Even better to beat a 5.0 in a type 2.  Make to poor guy cry............. :D

i dig a look reminicent of the cal-look. i know everyones opinion on true cal-look differs (one peice windows, no trim, raked stance, brm's, big motor, etc..)  but i'm going to build my car the way i prefer. the car will look the way it did when it came from the factory (og paint colour, full chrome trim, bumpers w/ over-riders, vent windows, etc). but with a lowered front, stock rear height. nicely narrowed beam so the wheels tuck just right (not the motor home-look), larger dissplacement engine w/ some old school speed parts and dual carbs for some get-up and polished and painted fuchs (hopefully early 4.5 & deep 6's). a trick, custom interior will complete the package. i also know that people will look at my car and say played this same that, but i'm building it for me, not them.

i'm also digging the patina-ed look. (see brad pursers car). the surface rusted minor ding lowered and powered to go beetle. a car that looks like it was pulled out of a barn after sitting for 10-20 years and has been toyed with in the performance department, but not the looks department. eric justus' flat black t34 really gets me going to. that car smokes. killer look and some serious balls to destroy everything in it's path.

Nothing to me is better than last months issue  in Hot VW or Vw trends that covered the split with the 356 brakes model A rear stop light and worn out everything!
My personal rules on any car is to never replace the steering wheel or shifter! To me those were the love and respect a car earned and deserves to bear proudly! (unless the wheel cuts you every turn and the shifter stabs you, then i understand the replacement) My odd and personal view!
Cheers!
