A fuel cell in a car for safety is not DOT approved in the US , I would then assume that ICBC in Canada also would not cover you with insurance then in an accident if a fire was involved.
Anyone know if this is true? I was thinking of putting a fuel cell into my car but also drive it on the street on a few occasions. I came across this in a post from the states.
So if I put one in does this put me into the race only category for the top 20 then James. I would feel safer with a fuel cell then the bug gas tank so I think you should make an exception?

Here is the quote
Currently, fuel cells are not legal for use on vehicles operated on public roads. We haven't found a fuel cell that has been approved for on-highway use by the department of transportation (D.O.T), and a fuel cell won't pass the visual inspection by a smog referee even if the factory fuel cap, filler tube, and all emission equipment are in place.
