I was having a bad day with my Bug (noice on right head when rev, bad news-BIG ^#$%$ DEAL.

In the mean time after calling BCAA, i get the news, my 14 year old nephew was roller blading in Pitt Meadows (after removing the brakes from his roller baldes) over the train bypass. He could not stop and went over the rail 30' below.

He is very broken up. His spine appears good and he can move fingers and toes. Probably will get some metal works but we are thankfull he is going to recoup.

HE WAS WEARING HIS HELMET PEOPLE.

My dad took a 35' fall from a neighbors willow tree when I was a kid. He spent a week in the hospital with some cracked ribs and had some nasty looking bruises. He never helped that neighbor again.

It won't be long before that ramp will be fixed in such a way that it will never happen to anyone else on the same ramp.

He went into O_R today and it looks positive.

VANCOUVER -- A 14-year-old in-line skater who flipped over an overpass railing, falling four storeys to the railway tracks below, is probably alive thanks to his helmet.

The Pitt Meadows teen, who has not been identified, was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital with a broken thigh bone and undetermined internal injuries.

\"He's still at Children's and will be for some time,\" said RCMP spokesman Dan Herbranson. \"It was quite a long drop.\"

The teen was blading over the pedestrian overpass in the 12100-block Bonson Road in Pitt Meadows on Wednesday.

Witnesses saw him trying to use the railing to slow himself down on the first hairpin turn of the switchback crossing when he flipped over the railing and fell 13 metres to the ground.

Police and paramedics credit the helmet for probably saving the teen's life.

Thanks to all for the good thoughts.

He is doing well, I think The Angel was soaring around him and saved his life. He does not like the hospital or the food there. Last week end he was released and is now home eating like a horse (14 years old.) He has a long road of therapy ahead. That is the price of recovery.

Thanks Guys, Here is an update:

We are so pleased with Patrick's progress. His improvement is rapid and truly amazing!

Patrick had his cast removed from his elbow surgery as well as all his staples (about 70!) last Thursday. The staples were a snap of course.... all that worrying for nothing! He had x-rays taken again of all his repaired bones and everything is healing well. His mood has been improving, especially since his hospital visit.

He started walking on his own last Thursday (taking 5-8 steps) and is now able to manage quite well on very short walks. We took his wheelchair with us to Costco today even though he didn't want me to but he was happy that we had it after a short time. He thinks he can manage without it but he's not ready to loose it yet.

He went to watch his soccer team play on Saturday and was met by many well-wishers at the field. We have had so many concerned & supportive people in our community as well as family and friends. It was his first outing (besides physio and the hospital visit last week) and it really lifted his spirits. He can't wait to play soccer again though. That won't be for a while yet but he is thinking December. I told him we will have to run that by his surgeon in a month when we see him next.

We again wanted to thank everyone for your words of encouragement, support, prayers and love during a very scary time for all of us. We are truly blessed to have such caring people involved our lives.
