Ran My Singleport At The 1/8 Mile
« on: August 26, 2006, 01:43:28 AM »
Wow just got back from the track tonight,  Awsome is all I can say.  I won first place out of about 14 cars in the import super tuner category.  I even got a trophy.  I had the fastest et of the night for this catagory, and was even faster than most domestics.

I ran 12 pounds boost and had a best time of 8.702 @ 82.07 corrected with a 2.112 60'.    This is on radial tires.   My best 1/8 mile last week on 10 pounds was 9.001 @ 77.06

This engine is really promsing, I look forward to next year and even faster times.

Oh I have to say that  this track has not seen a beetle for many years so when I staged the car, my wife said many people were laughing at the beetle, even the anouncer made a comment.  Then the light went green, and everyone had a @$#%@$# look at that car go comment.  We caught it all on video too.  It's funny.  By the end of the night my beetle was the most cheered on car....so my wife and brother in-law say.  They had a blast listening to peoples comments.  The best was a tubbed out vega that was loud,   It ran a slower time, and the guy behind told his buddy that the beetle would have waxed him.  hahaha.

Was that at the track east of Kelowna?

The last time I was there was about 3 years ago.  The only other VW was a tube frame sandrail.  At about double his weight, my car was a good second faster.

Yup Thunder mountain raceway.   We had a blast.  I think everyone at the track  would be in shock if the regulars from mission showed up with a carvan of beetles racing and really show them what a beetle can do.  I look forward to going back next year.

My first race was against a 1968-69 firebird with slicks.  he did a burnout, crowd was awhing, the anouncer called me herbie blah blah blah and chuckled some, and said she will put her money on the firebird, guys behind were laughing at the bug.  I beat him by a second and a half.  The crowd was nuts the anouncer right from the green was nuts, it was awsome.  You can't not grin while watching the video.  My wife had a blast being in the crowd she likes the attention, and she got lots.

I have to play it on the tv and record it off the screen and onto my digital camera first so it will be a bit grainy.

Will do this once I get some time.

Let me know where to e-mail them too.  Do you have  video compression software?  I don't so the video's are 7-8 megs and 1 is 16 megs.

James just offered also...first come first served with a reply.

Thanks

This is getting better and better.  I used the wrong correction # for converting my time of 9.097 @ 78.832 from 4100 ft.  My time is actually a 8.639 @ 83.049 at sea level, which is where I will be running the 1/4 at Mission next year.

I just changed my turbo today from the 60 trim .60 housing to a 50 trim .42 housing and a .48 exhaust.  Now hopefully this will help getting onto boost faster which will be even quicker times, boost was coming on hard late in second, then a bit of a pause in third then on strong.  1 last race next Saturday, we'll see what happens.

So now this new time works out to be approx a 13.4?  in the 1/4, and I am only .7 tenths off of the Inch pinchers time  when it ran the shorrocked  singleport in full race trim, I can still loose weight, add slicks and increase my boost by 14 pounds .    I'm close I can feel it.  My goal next year is to run faster than the inch pincher using the singleport, but the ultimate goal eventually is a singleport in the 11's
