I know your partial to supers, but my 67 you came to look at in Huntington is still available.

I'm pretty sure ICBC won't fix that.  In my time in the bodyshops, I've only seen one fire victim that was repaired, and it was a $150,000 Peterbilt.

I am not too familiar with heat of a fire and its effect on the metal. I don't think it would get hot enough.
imho, that amount of heat will have warped and weakened the metal to a state that is beyond repair.

On top of all the warpage, all that new bare metal has rusted from the water the FD poured on it.  The truth is that the ICBC estimators will laugh at you if you push to get it fixed.  That car is so far a write off.

If you really want a rust free 1303, you need to go to Cali or AZ.  They are cheap and plentiful, and not highly desireable there.  Sunroofs are common.

The best advice I can give is to not buy the first car you find.  Be very selective so that your next car is better than the last one.

Your right silas I forgot about the hot metal being cooled with water will harden the steel making it brittle

The shame of it is it was pretty rust free.  Bruce is correct don't be in a hurry

Maybe you find a deal today.

omg, glad you and your bro are OK... what a nightmare. :(

Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.

Here's lead #1.  Yesterday, Silas and I were milling around the late cars when a guy who's been out of VWs for a while came by.  He said he's thinking of selling his 73 Super (and it does have a Sunroof!!!)  His name is Barry Van Der Greff.  604 795 7584.  He's out in the 'wack.

that was a good find bruce.

i met brendan (amishrabbi) shortly after that and told him that you had some info for him. i showed him where your car was and told him to look for you.

i also told him that there were a few early 70's cars in the parking lot that were for sale so hopefully he got some more leads.
