finally got the pics loaded off my camera, so thought i'd give ya the rundown of how Club Vee Dub's annual Das Volks show went off this year...
this was my first time out, and i think i hit a great year for my intro to the Calgary scene. with my all-access wristband fastened, went to Race City to watch Beetles, SQB, a bit of water and even a Kombi hot-lap down the quarter-mile.
club organizer extraordinaire Janelle (pink beetle) lines up against Neil's 1968.

for the couples' grudge match for the evening... CVD prez Jason lines up against his better half Janelle:

i didn't get a shot of Ryan from Innisfail's 1600 turbo (all made from backyard parts), although watching his 15.24 run when the turbo kicked in was pretty funny -- it started out a little boggy, but took off like a freakin' rocket about 20 feet in.
although not quite as speedy as the turbo, Regina's Chris Murray of the Northern United Transporter Society (gotta love the acronym) made a pass in his 1956 OG Kombi:

Chris ran a 29.8 at 52 mph -- and just squeaked across the line before Race City's 30-second cutoff for the clock. Doug Peters, also from Regina, caught it on video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OQFB3AQ03Iafter racing we all wanted to get the hell outta the wind, so we went for drinks. Doug -- aka DP -- was representin' the group in style.

saturday involved breakfast at Concept 1, followed by the poker run around town -- which was cool for this out-of-towner, given i don't get to cruise Cowtown very often. the poker run wrapped up with a show n' shine at Hooters again that night, where we had BBQ hamburgers and, ahem, a *few* bevvies on the patio.
sunday was show day at Stanley Park, and holy crap was it hot! quite a collection of cars...

what i found really interesting about the Calgary collection of ACVWs was that when these guys say OG condition, it's practically mint. barn/garage finds are in immaculate shape, because they've literally been out of the elements for decades. and they're all cream/beige coloured for some reason...
Ralph Tweaten's OG 1965 T1

Blair Joudrey's OG 1955 T1 (i think that's the right year...)

these folk also know how to restore their vehicles. Ken from Concept 1's single cab almost made me wet my pants, and Jim Crittenden's 1967 T1 Cabrio made me drool (even despite the fact I'm not a vert fan).

there were also some SWEET ASS mullets, the hunt was plentiful... but my camera died. hopefully my artist rendition of the sickest mullet I HAVE EVER SEEN will suffice
