I'm asking for your wisdom again in regards to the general value of another convertible we just found.

It's a 1968 semi automatic convertible Beetle. Orignal paint and every thing else is original and stock the way it came. It still has the orginal stickers in the glove box and all original parts down to the smallest items are there. The car has never been in an accident and is straight. No rust any where except a 5 inch long X 1/8 wide rust hole through the pan by the battery. Absolutely no rust any wheres else. The paint is OK but it is the original and has a numer of rock chips a few small scuffs.
It has a fairly new top and the seats are perfect. Original radio, dash is all there. In short it's the most orginal car I've seen in a long time.

The motor and mechanical appear to be in tip top shape. It comes with all the service records including the original bill of sale. The current owner bought it from a little old lady.

There is no asking price as of yet and I spoke with the guy and he's interested in selling it to me but I want some help as to what you think this is worth. What's a fair price for such an orginal convertible in such good shape?

why is he selling it?

if he cant come up with a price and you tell him to not be offended by your offer, then start low and tell him we'll go from there.

He's says he's selling cause the car sits in their garage and they planned on giving it to his kids but the crazy kids don't want it. He and his wife like the car but just don't drive it very much at all, so he says that's why he's selling.

Any idea on what something like this has been going for?

If it is what you say, I would say around 3500 to 5500 mark
Earlier ones hold more value and you can find good ones from 4500 to 20,000

A customer of mine imported an original paint 68 'black plate' Bug from SoCal last winter. It it the cleanest VW I've ever worked on in 20 plus years. He paid $3000 US plus taxes/ fees/shipping. A great deal IMHO. That vert sounds like a steal for anything under $5K. Keep in mind the roof assy can be really expensive to restore. Lots of pricey parts there. Picture that car lowered with the new Gasburners..

For those of you who were wondering, apparently the vert went for between 11 & 12 thousand to another guy, I wasn't willing to go that high. Thanks for every ones thoughts on the value of the car, much appreciated!
