Air Care Certified Repairs?
« on: June 20, 2006, 03:28:34 PM »
(sorry if it's bad form to post in 2 forums...) My 77 westy just failed his CO (idle and driving) tests for AirCare, and since I'm just learning and am in a bit of a rush, does anyone know of (and recommend) any mechanics who are also \"Air Care Certified\" who know their VWs?
thanks!

If you are in the Surrey/Delta area, try The Bug Shop. They are located at 120th and 96th (604) 589-2236. Call in adavnce, he is extremely busy at this time of the year.

Are they  \"air care certified\"?  The problem is, if they're not, I could spend $1000 and still fail - but if I go to one of their stupid \"certified\" repair shops  ]:(  there is a max - If the repairs are more than $300 they give you a \"conditional pass\" Thing is, if I can't find a VW place, it'll probably cost me more to get less done!

you should call the Bug Shop anyway, he may just be able to fix it and you can get a real pass.

Or WCSD sponsor Duane's German Autohaus in Langley - they have a gas analyser and should be able to get you in tune.

High HC could be something nasty, but not always. Just don't be suprised if you get bad news.
In the Richmond area give Sylvesters automotive a call, I'm not sure if he's aircare certified but he's a genuine aircooled guru.

Thanks guys! It's actually the CO that I falied on (driving and Idle) What sort of things can cause high CO? I'm not that knowledgable in the mechanics which is why I'm looking for a shop.  If I hadn't just put my back out (replacing the heater box and muffler ^_^ ) I'd crawl back under there and see what I could learn...but... ( I think that heater box weighed as much as I do!)
