Crap, I Think It's A Real!
« on: June 14, 2006, 12:17:15 AM »
Just messing around on the Manx site tonight, and found our buggy has all the qualities of an original  Manx (raised emblem area (for early sticker), reinforced glassed tube running between front and back fenders, battery & rear molded spare tire well. The guy had owned it twenty five years (since he was 15) Got it second hand out of Washington in 1981. Will post more pics once I clean all the junk out of it.

Took some more pics this afternoon to try to get it authenticated by the Manx club. It seems in the absense of an ID plate they want to see that it has the reinforcing tubes underneath on each side, and the spare tire well / battery well in the back. This is all new to me, and kind of interesting to know. ^_^

Hey Chris nice find! Can I ask you which town you got it from cuz the blue buggy I found recently a couple blocks from my house isn't there anymore, and a 23 window bus just like yours was seen here in Powell River about a month or so ago.  [_[

Hey Al, that's pretty strange but wasn't us. Maybe Powell River is like a parallell universe, and your \"Powell River\" Chris and Gina scooped your buggy
Got the buggy on Fraser HWY just before 232nd. ^_^

Also Thanks Jacob (68typeIIIbuggy)! Can't wait to see your new VW on the road too  ;)

Good to know I still have a chance at the buggy in my universe.
So what are your plans for that sweet ride?

If it turns out to be an authentic Manx we will hang on to it and clean it up. Still looking for inspiration. I like side pods though (OEM still available through the Manx store).

Maybe freshen up the blue metal flake and add a Betty Boop mural ^_^

We've decided we're going to hang on to it. Pretty neat little buggy. We want to build up a new pan for it but leave it old school buggy looking. I think it needs some old cragar SS wheels B)

Sounds like you have a great plan for it.    If it turns out not to be a real Manx, which I doubt, I'm interested.  ;)  This thread lit a fire under my but to go talk to the guy here about the buggy I saw and turns out he still has it and it's a Sidewinder made by Autocraft, they were kinda styled like the corvette. It needs a lot of work and he's saving it for his 12yr old son. So I'm SOL.
Looking forward to seeing yours on the road.
