Passing Aircare With Incorrect Motor
«

Hey
i've got a '75 Super with a carbureted '71 1600DP, stock carb with stock jet, aftermarket air filter without a preheat hose, and an aftermarket header and brand new single quietpack
is there anything i can do to pass aircare without a hitch?
i know they're gonna be testing me as a completely stock fuel injected beetle, i don't even know if they had cat's on them in '75, pretty sure they didn't
will putting the stock air filter back on help any?
does that fuel additive stuff actually work?
any tips would be great
this'll be the second stab at trying to pass, so i either pass or i pay a shop to pass it for me

i have a '75 beetle , earlier 1600cc motor, dual kadrons, headers, msd box, msd coils, just retard the timing , put your idle up to 1100 rpm , ad in some mythelhydrate , works for me .

Just put a 78 super with a carb thru last month, make sure it's tuned well and use a co meter to set the idle mix and it's an easy pass.
Don't retard your timing. That's a handy trick for cat equipped cars but will put your VW's hc readings way way up.

Post your car's vin number. With that, we can see your car's Aircare history.
Without the numbers, any suggestions for repairs or adjustments are worthless.

just did a check on my vin, didn't know you could do that
the number is 1352139746
failed quite terribly actually, wow
only real problem with this method is that while my current motor is still a 1600DP, it isn't the one i failed with
either way i've got some tuning to do

So you are saying the readings from last August are not from the engine you have now?
You have to take it in for a test.
