Would Anyone Be Willing To Help Me?
« on: May 01, 2006, 06:58:37 AM »
I posted into the tech forums, this:

http://www.airspeedparts.com/community-for...t=ST&f=3&t=8248

Seeing as this is my first aircooled, I still have alot to learn. I really have no idea how to attack this problem I'm having. Is there anyone out there that could come help me out? There would obviously be some money involved here. The car is parked on the side of the street in Vancouver, just past the Purdy's Chocolate factory....not too far from where I live actually. I have a friend with a towbar so the car can be moved if really needed. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

rich, this sounds a lot like what my beetle was doing last fall. noises included a clunk on pressing the clutch pedal, followed by a grind as i tried to get it into gear. turned out all i needed was to adjust the clutch. it'd been a while since it was adjusted, and had backed off waaaay too much -- so much so that the cable channel had been the only thing holding that last little bit of clutch adjuster in. when the metal channel came loose (what was making the clunk noise), i got a simultaneous clunk/grind.

if this is your first ACVW, pick up John Muir's The Complete Idiot's Guide to Keeping Your Volkswagen Alive. this isn't a statement on your mechanic skills, just that the book is pretty good for diagnosing those quirky hiccups with your aircooled.
Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.
