Wood Burning Vw's?
« on: April 15, 2006, 09:13:21 PM »
So tonight I was talking with my brother inlaw and he starts talking about alternative fuel vehicles.  As his family moved to Canada from W. Germany when he was young his family still has ties there.  He mentions seeing pictures of a wood burning Kubel and beetle.  NOW my attentions is caught.  The kids in the background screaming/ playing.  The dogs running around barking.  My wife, sister, and stepmother having a conversation about who knows what. .....  All I hear is VW and they are tuned RIGHT OUT.  He then tells me that he thinks he's seen them online as well.  Well a bit of searching and what do you know there it is.  The very picture he remembers seeing.  Talk about a barn find.......

You can follow this link to read up more about them.

Yes, they were called a \"Pegasus Unit\", and they were commonly fitted to many German vehicles during the 30's and 40's, as Germany has no oil reserves of it's own. My Dad has a book on this unit. Interesting reading.
