A Year To The Day
« on: March 13, 2006, 12:01:18 PM »
Well it's a year to the day that I was welcomed on to the forum, and what a hell of a year it's been. The latest update on Kamloops is that it may be as early as August that we arrive at our new home, but that depends on visas so we will have to wait and see, we are going to see if we can have our visas sent to us in California so we can take a break before we settle in Kamloops, do the Disney thing with the kids before they go past the wow stage.
Maybe pick me up a rust free VW as well, I cant wait. Trying to get a job on the other hand is a totally different ball game, not having much sucess on that front, oh well keep on trying.
Talking to Alex and we started saying about stuff that we will miss, tea seemed to be top of the list and chocolate, but they do Cadburys chocolate over there I said, but it's not the same she said, I may have to reconsider the whole thing I said
Is there anything that you cant get there that we have here, maybe I could bring over something for you guys, please only small sensible ideas
Updates as I get them.

you havent heard? canada has chocolate tea. it's da bomb.  ;)

regarding work, if your wife is set up with a job and you're not, i wouldnt fret too much. you could always play mr. mom and let her bring home the back bacon for awhile. also, i'm sure you'll have a way better chance getting a job once you're here. the whole face to face sell them with the interview thing can work wonders.

what about the rhd? are you not bringing it with? if i were you i'd look into getting it shipped over. it just might be worth it in the long run.

cheers and good luck.

Tea............. No problem.

Chocolate............. you gotta be kidding.

Both of which you can get anything your heart desires.  Trust me when I say that all your chocolate need can be met here in the Mighty west.  I'm no expert on Tea but I have English friends and they've had no problems finding what they like.

Work is highly overated anyway.  With the market the way it is right now in B.C.  IF you Want to work you can.  The job market is awesome right now.  Chef?

Great to hear you might make it in time for The GCVWS.  I'm only an hour and a half east of you in Salmon Arm.  Look forward to seeing you in person.

lived in your neck of the woods before, and never felt like i was going without -- just that i couldn't afford anything you guys had!

you'll be able to get your tea (lots of tea fans over here), chocolate and pretty much whatever else ya like -- that's the beauty of staying in the commonwealth. what you'll most likely miss, down the road, is being able to drop into a good fish&chips place, or picking up a curry on the way home from the bar. those are less common here (esp. curries in kamloops), but we got our own stuff to try in the meantime -- ie. poutine, etc.
Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.

Glad to hear it is getting closer . You should get that care package with info any day now I hope it was a little big but I would think any day .Let me know that it comes through . You should be able to get anything you need hear lots of specialty shops around . A good ole english pub and alot of your accents might be the only hard thing to find . Working with a guy now who came over 10 years ago said he knows where you are at over there will hook you up with him when you get here might be able to help with some of the adjustment stuff . You will miss home but this will turn out to be a great choice see you soon  :)

Well that was the plan but as it turns out I would need a second morgage to bring it over around the $4000 dollar mark so I am told, cant afford that amount of money, not happy about leaving it here but not alot I can do, looking to buy a bus maybe when I get there, who knows will have to wait and see.
many thanks again guys for the warm words, looking forward to putting names to faces.
