What Would Happen If The Gcvws
« on: March 10, 2006, 09:31:03 AM »
I would hate to see it happen (and I won't let it) But what if? How do you think the adition of the drag night and sat breakfast has changed the GCVWS?

At one time 6 years ago it was just a Sunday show, do you think the other two days have made the Sunday event bigger and better? We need to hear from everyone.

Would you still come from far and away to this event if it was just Sunday?

G.

I am new to the VW community here.I have never experienced the week end long event, and I am looking forward to this year.

If I had a racer and I was not from the lower Mainland, I would probably not pend the $$$ to show up for a Sunday only. I may come to look for some deals but the expence of bringing my ride, i would spare the $$$$.

My 2 cents

I know for me, I like the idea of a weekend adventure. Moose and Mowser made the Friday night drags (my son was way too tired after the drive down) I made the Saturday pancake breaky with my kid and Sunday we all went. Don't forget if it is only Sunday, many of us have to leave early to get home for work on Monday.
I for one like the all weekend thing.

My 2 cents

For me, coming up from Portland I am all for the weekend thing. If it were just a Sunday event I would less likely make the trip. Even it just a BBQ the night before it

We will NEVER make it a one day event, We just have some people who think the Sunday show hasn't benefitted from the other shows we put during the weekend. I hate to try and compare to the Classic but we want it to be a weekend type event that people plan as a holiday.

The way we see it is the # of cars may not have jumped a huge amount over the last 6 years but the crowds have. As well I don't think the Berg Cruisers would have come all that way two years in a row just for the Sunday ;)

Keep posting I want to hear what you have to say.
Geoff.

We think the weekend thing is great. You can always build on what you got to bring more people out. Some kind of latteral happening at Mission would be cool (a reserved area to park/hang out and something organized there to bring everyone together?..How about a valve cover race workshop where people & their kids can build/paint valve cover racers and we could have a sanctioned event on the Sunday?). Also at mission we get hassled every year by the same nazi who doesn't want us going over to the other side of the track. Anything that can be done about that? Passes or ?? Can anyone organize a discount at a host hotel for out of towners.... Cascades maybe?). Also the weekend needs an official cruise. It's always a great weekend. Mad props to all who make it happen. ;)

I take the whole week off prior to WCSD and GCVW - I agree with everyone it needs to be a full weekend.

I also agree,  I like the whole weekend.

It would be nice to have a show and racing combined, but then you are talking about  some kind of prize money for awards, so  more racers show up.  I'm sure you guys have all thought about this kind of event, and how viable it would be.   We all would like this and that, but the DVKK has to decide what works for X amount of $$

Everyone has done an awsome job at preparing for these shows, most of us have no idea how much time you are putting into it.

Geoff I really appreciate everything you and others have done for the old aircooled vw's.  Keep it up.

Kevin

One day would suck! It's hard to set a three day event and reduce it to one, Im glad you will never do it!
You guys put on a hell of a show, it is a perfect weekend that i look forward to every year,I even delayed my sisters wedding for three hours just to stop in.   Your event is a vacation, a three day celebration of the dub, great prizes and nice people, It is hard to really tell you how much my family appreciates it!

One day would suck!!! :P

i agree with hans. 3 days is not enough. and someone said earlier that there should be a cruise. i vote for a wally's burger/vancity cruise on thursday night. i have actually thought about trying to organize an ac/vc (air-cooled/van-city) cruise for the summer. cruise through gastown go around stanley park across the burrard street bridge down cornwall past kits beach through pointgrey up 4th and end at spanish banks for some lounging & a sunset. i may try to organize something like this regardless, but it could be something to think about as an addition to the gcvws weekend. it also could double as a rolling advertisement for the show. hand out some handbills or hang a big sign off of some type II.

personally, if i wasnt local, i would be bummed if it were only a one day event. a trip to vancouver is not cheap if you live on the island or outside the lower mainland. 3 days of festivities makes it way more worth while. i think car and people attendence would drop drastically if it were only a one day event.

you also have to think about all the exposure that is gathered from having a weekend long vw party. when people start seeing tons of vw's at mission, at hotels, on the highway, cruising around town, they really take note that something serious is going down. i dont know what the specific #'s are, but i have seen a steady increase of vehicle and people traffic over the past 4-5 years at all the weekend events.

one more thing about the # of cars. are you strictly talking about the # of cars in the show? because i can definately tell that even tho there were cars parked on the grass last year, there was definately room for more. but were the vw's in the parking lots in and around the show counted? alot of people wont enter their dailies, but will drive them to the show. i have seen a whole lot more vw's parked outside the show that ever before. what you need to do is figure out how to get them to pay and get them to enter there vw's in the show. maybe an \"everyday vw\" class? B)

regardless of what happens, i totally dig the whole gcvws weekend and look forward to it every year. kudos to all the people involved in putting it together. i know the hours are long and the sacrifices are many, but i truly hope that you all realize that the show you put on is 5 star quality and alot of people really appreciate your efforts.

Yeah the 3 day event is awesome. One day would just be wrong. I know that is one of the reasons I have been coming back... a whole weekend of VW imersion. Definetly one of the best shows I have been to in a long time. Seattle used to be my favourite, but the GCVWS has taken over.
I also think a Sat. night cruise would be an awesome idea.

it's simply numbers ,..... the show has been such a success that it has grown from a one day event to a three day event , there arn't a whole lot of shows around here , and it's nice to spend the three days showing off your VW . you work hard to keep your car looking good , and to only have one day to show it off would suck , ..... in my personal experience it takes atleast  three days to go around and appricate all the VW's, and the hard work ppl have put into them .

sunday is the cherry on top , after the two days of fun !!!!!!!!!!
