Ghia Vin Lookup?
« on: January 19, 2006, 08:50:22 PM »
I've seen a website that has the basic info on Vehicle Information Number details.

http://www.type-14.com/chassis.htm

I was wondering if someone has come across a detiled breakdown of the VIN.

ie: it is a convertible, original colour code,  etc

it's a 1960 VIN (2679XXX)

thanks

A 1960 VIN isn't going to tell you much other than a rough production date. Unless Ghia's have an \"M\" code plate like busses (second painted steel plate with a bunch of 3 digit numbers that begin with M) the only way you are going to get what you are looking for is getting the car's birth certificate from VW. I can't find the address or price at the moment but I'm sure someone here knows where to write and how much it costs. good luck.

thanks.

I saw that post for the birth cert. in my search.

I thought the VIN would contain more info in it rather than just a seruial number that increases by one for ever car left the production floor.

something like this:

Type 1 VINs only tell you the year and model of car.  Pre 65, you only get the year out of it.
