Anyone have any good methods to remove a few layers of paint from fibreglass pannels?

I think you could be wrong there . Gel coat is not all that much stronger than piant.I know media blasting is alot softer than sand and won't harm glass and chrome etc. ......but but hey I have been wrong before

why would you want to strip the paint off the glass , just sand it out , and remember before you prime for paint you will want to gell coat it again as the gell coat will seal the fiberglass, then prime and paint, or you could just gell coat it and polish it really smooth it would look just as good, you can find some strippers at your local marine store as well

I agree, most people/shops skip the gelcoat step. Big mistake. I did the body/paint on a 1965 GT40 3 years ago WITHOUT re gelcoating. They wouldn't listen. Boy did it move once it went to Monterey. Not in a good way, the finish was nice before it left, a mess when it returned. Luckily it was the shops mistake.

The cars owner was happy as he sold it for $950,000..
