Vw Dealers?
« on: January 13, 2006, 12:41:55 AM »
I recently received my VW certificate from the VW museum in Germany. It indicated that the car was delivered to Vancouver. I have also spoken to some of the previous owners of my 1958 bug (other Airspeed forum people) and it seem as if the car spent most of it's life in Chilliwack. So my question is what VW dealer(s) would have been around Chilliwack back in 1958?

Cross Norman?
Westminster?
Clarkdale?
Guildford?

My goal is to track down the previous owners and hopefully find out what happened to the original motor?

Thanks.
1958 deluxe Beetle (project in progress)

1972 Kombi
1964 Vespa 150

If your B.C. says Vancouver, it could mean it was delivered to the Port of Vancouver.  Does anyone know if western cars landed here or were transported across the country?

that sounds logical to me.

ship to bc and then train/truck to the neighbouring provinces and territories.

Here's a list of VW Dealers in Canada from 1957:

Growing up in N. Van, I remember going to Chalet Motors with my dad to get his '61 Beetle serviced at the corner of Lonsdale & 3rd St.
Things sure have changed around there since then.....

My 1965 Beetle that I'm restoring originally was bought from Chalet Motors in North Van, and yes, I have the license plate frame for the rear of the car.

I had a Haney Volkswagen Commuters Club License plate frame, I gave it to Aug Rinz, this guy is really into the watercooled stuff
Thanks,
Shawn
