Any Love For Water Cooled Vintage Vws?

is there any interest here for vintage watercooled cars as they are becoming old and collectable.

alot of these early watercooled cars are getting rare.

so any love for early watercooled roccos, golfs?

I LOVE pre 81 Rabbits, or Mark 1 Golfs as the euro folks prefer... I have built several killer mk1 Golfs for personal rides in between aircooleds... I built a US spec square light rabbit into a 79 Canadian GTI with a good ol' BC rustbucket... I threw a ton of Yanks off with all of the unique parts! Thanks guys! :P

I guess the early waters are just as cool, as long as you keep the right motor in it. My opinion- the 1.8 8 valve, one AWESOME engine! I don't need a 16valve transplant... Just a few extra parts... Vintage power is great.

sweet. 8v's are awesome id have to agree. though if i were building an 8v i would do the ABA bottom end with a solid lifter gti head. or a bit more up to date, do a complete ABA with a neuspeed supercharger.

my 1981 scirocco will be powered by a N/A 2.0L 16V with Euro 50mm intake manifold a chip, Euro intake cam, TT exhaust and enrichment module. should be good for about 160hp. or close to. which is aweomse and reliable.

my bro is redoing his 1984 GTI. its a mint 99000 mile portland car. absolute survivor with a mint interior, mars red/ on red with all manuals. hes going to restore it completly euro spec, including the tail panel which no one seems to do. we have got most of the pieces good to go.

to many vw projects, the scirocco is going to be much needed experience before i tackle the beetle.

I had a '77 scirocco,  a few years ago, original paint with the big SCIROCCO decals on the doors.  It was rusty but restorable, I spray bombed it red and black and drove it as a winter beater, I should never have sold it.  That  was a sweet car.

thats awesome 77 is an early one. last year for the early style front end. i prefer the 78-81 myself but the early one ofcourse is more desirable.

I dig the early water cooleds! i also have a vw water cooled powerd bug...so i am allowed to swing both ways..(dont get your hopes up shane! :wub: )

i have had two 1982 sciroccos....a 1980 rabbit...and now i have an 86 rocco
none exactly vintage...but the 82 rocco is my fav early water cooled... unless you start getting into the sweet restored 70s rabbits...those are hard to beat...

3 of my cars have had ABA tall block swaps with ported solid lifter CIS heads...with a nice solid lifter 288

I think the nicest early rabbit that I have seen is the one that andrew from bow-wow restored.  I like the way he kept it original colour and interior; it's the way I would have done it.

That's almost identical to my first brand new car. My first brand new car was a white 1980 VW Rabbit GTI sunroof with a euro grill and bosch yellow fog lights under bumper. I bought it in langley Cross and Norman VW $9,292.92! Loved it and then kids, car seats and dog not much room left sold it in 97 to a neighbour for his son. The kid re ended a pickup about a wekk later  :(  ]:(

how so?

according to Canadian Customs, when importing, anything over 25 years old is considered vintage.

I like watercooled and I built one. But they are nothing but problems. Electrical is a nightmare with them and the parts that they make for them these days are crap.Unless you spend large money on the good stuff.

It may not be vintage, but I'm currently rocking my 82' rabbit for the winter. Enjoying the heat, it's the first year that I haven't driven the bug year round.

It's alright... for a winter car.  :P

didn't say they were, but they do classify 25 years and older as vintage.  antique is 40 years, IIRC. but I suppose you would know who the real authority is then??

yes sir. not to mention a 74-76 swallowtail rabbit.  by the way. i see more beetles on the road then early rabbits. the unit body cars dont fare very well.
