Book Or Guide Available?
« on: December 07, 2003, 10:25:10 AM »
I have the Haynes Manuel and the John Muir book. Is there a book out that gives specifics for my 71?  I am looking to bring it back to original and would like to know specifics on stuff like trim, accessories...etc.
Also looking for a diagram or pic of under the hood so i can replace what few hoses are left. Any books or sites you know of that can help me out?
tks

I'm assuming you have a Beetle.

There's a couple of books you should consider essential:
Original Volkswagen Beetle by Lawrence Meredith. An excellent book showing what perfect stock Beetles should look like.

VW Beetle & Transporter Restoration Guide by Haynes UK Publishing.

VW Beetle Restoration Handbook by VW Trends Magazine.

Official Service Manual 1970-79 by Robert Bentley Publishers.

All are available from Wilkinson's Automobilia in Vancouver (604-873-6242 ask for me). The Service manual is generally available both new and used.
Of course Airspeed offers the Service Manual as well.

Original Volkswagen Beetle = $53.95
VW Beetle & Transporter Restoration Guide = $56.95
VW Beetle Restoration Handbook = $27.95
Official Service Manual 1970-79 =$53.95 new, $37.95 used. We only have a used copy on hand at the moment.
The first two are pricesy because they're printed in England. If you don't have one already, I suggest the shop manual will do you the most good, but once you've eyeballed them all, you'' be able to decide for yourself..
We're open today from 12-5.

How nice for you.

Let me spell it out:
If you buy from me, I have more money to go and buy parts from Airspeed.
Then Geoff or Jim can go and buy whatever from some other VW guy. Bodywork from Matt for example. And so on and so on and so on.

When you buy from Amazon, VW guys don't win...

Now hear this:
Anybody who spends money in our store (Wilkinson's Automobilia) or on our website (www.eautomobilia.com), and mentions they heard about us here, gets a 10% discount from me. And I promise I'll buy as many parts as possible at Airspeed.

Fair enough?

Now that sounds like a great deal, with Christmass around the corner a book or manual makes a great gift!

I agree it's a great idea Geoff.
Don't take this the wrong way JC but...
the more I save on a book or purchase means the more I can spend at Airspeed. Also I emailed you but never got a reply.
I will definitly keep your site bookmarked and the next VW book I go to order I will check with you first. Fair??

While it appears you got a better deal from Amazon, you didn't.  The old used copies are always better than the new ones because the old ones have the wiring diagrams in colour.  Your new one, when it arrives will have B&W wiring diagrams.
