Just been and picked my brother up from the airport, well coming back all of a sudden no gears only reverse

, so I reverse back a bit and catch the exhaust on the kerb

, I've then gone and bent it right back underneath the car, Merry Christmas to me

, anyone any ideas with the gears, I realy need the car at the moment.

Does it feel like you can't select it or can you feel the car go into gear and it just not move?
If you can't select it sounds like your shifter needs an adjustment. You need a 13mm wrench and to loosen up the two bolts around the shifter and shift it into gear(I normally do 2nd) snug it up and see if you can select the other ones..

No I cannot get any gear at all, it's like there is something stopping it from going into gear, only reverse works, maybe the gear linkage is the problem.

Try adjusting it. Back off the bolts a lot and see if its the problem. Also lift up the back seat and check the inspection cover in the center of the tunnel and see how your shift coupler is holding up.

If the spider gears are gone you'll only have reverse. I know a few people including me that have blowin the spider gears and all you can do is back up!

Kirin I dont think you are one to give advice on fixing cars.

I had a similar thing happen when some how the hockey stick in the nose cone poped two gears in at the same time. But My car would not move at all.
I had to pop the nose cone off and reset the shift forks all to neutral.
Took 5 min to fix but an hour and a half to pull the motor and tranny.
The problem never happend again.

I drove your car around the block your shifter was not set right.
you down shift from 3rd to 2nd and you hit reverse.

Check out my post in the transmission forum maybe you can add your two cents. But there definetly is some weirdness with my shifter though...

No there are no strange noises, only the sound of coins falling from my hands into the mechanics :lol: :lol:

It could be a few things, Did it feel like the clutch pedal adjustment changed? The Pressure plate may have failed and or the cross shaft. If so the pedal will feel different and will now not have enough travel to allow you to shift into gears. You could try putting it into gear with the motor off then try starting it, if it wants to move forward while starting you then know it's in gear and most likely the clutch area to look at. Als check the coupler under the back seat, maybe it's loose.

Try those things first and let us know. I have a few other ideas as well.

put the bug into gear although could only select reverse or what seems like second or fourth,started it and he only wants to go back, nothing else. have not tried underneath back seat yet, will try after boxing day.

If you only have reverse and appears to have 2nd ( but goes backwards still ?) I had a similar problem yaers ago and paid to have it fixed ....uggg....happened again and did this and it worked. Remove the side plug from the tranny and poke a screw driver in and GENTLY move the gear carrier back and or forth.Leave the tranny in reverse . I belive the hockey stick has no place to go as the carrieer is not in the correct place .DO NOT put alot off pressure on the carrier . it does not take much to move them ,they will or they wont.I would think that the problem is the alighnment of the 3 shift rods or what ever they are called that the hockey stick goes back and forth in. When doing this jack the car up and rmove the left rear ( use jack stands allways :unsure: )wheel .Leave the right one on so as you can turn it slightly( with your foot ) while peeking throught the side plug hole.( you will need a mirror )
Do you shift with out the clutch much? This I found bounces the gear assemblies around verses the gentle slide action when using the clutch.( some times the carrier is pinged to its limit and bounces back a tad, thus creating a alighnment problem. Do you have a solid reverse action but out of reverse it apears to go around in circles ( the gear shift ) ?

Keep in mind that the carrier will move forwards and backwards of the neutual possition it must be in the center possition.And your trans must be in reverse.Move it to the center position and try the shifter you shoud notice a change in the operation of it.Use common sense when prying (don't pry agaisnt and thing that looks fragile etc, )

just to let you know ,bugs all fixed and back on the road, I completely snapped the manifold and had to replace that but the gearbox problem turned out to be a minor adjustment, so just to say thanks for ideas and suggestions, you rock as always.
