Wow, excellent pictures and tribute guys.  I can't believe it was a year already...it sure was strange not seeing (and hearing)  him at the Coquitlam show wasn't it?  I do miss him!
I'm going to a Christmas party at his son Josh's tomorrow night and I'll tell him about this.
Merry Christmas!

That picture of him at the swap sure was the John I knew. Seemed we'd always end up in spots across from each other . That and bumping into him at almost any other swap I went to. Always had a smile on his face and a good story to tell. Good memories. Sure miss him around the scene.

I wish I had a webhost I would show the picture of him in his blue ghia in front of everybody else. I remember him cruising in his thing with a see through top... He was at the last Kaferkraft cruise and rearended Eric..
He is missed.

Pic # 8 is cool cause even I knew john for many years The day I painted that thing I found out he was a big part of my family . He had worked with my Uncle at frieghtliner in Burnaby. And When John moved to Salmon arm my 3 of cousins worked for him at Mcdonalds. This story can get quite long so I will leave it at that . But one more thing that makes that pic kinda personal is That big as surf board on the roof of the thing . Its The 1969 eleminator ,greek board that he bought of me at the 2004 coquitlaim show. I still find it wierd that he passed the same day I regesterd as an ASF member.  :(

The bumpers on the blue Ghia are off my very first car...

John was a good guy, and we're all the poorer for not having him here.

The blue ghia was my sister's screensaver and she now hopes to own an AC VW because of it. Nothing her big brother could do would convince her but one look at that car and she was hooked.

I bought that blue ghia from FLOSSIN. That was about 4-5 years ago and John came over and bought it from me. I always got along with him and its true, the swap meets are not the same without him. Hey slammedbus, your sis has good taste in cars! ;)

hmmm thats me in the far left. anyways. i remember when i went to visit johns storage in langley, about 4 years ago. it was full of vw parts and cars, he showed me around and i looked at the cars he was building. he had a complete fiberglass KG shell. and i dont think it was a funny/race car. looked stock as far as i remember. anyways i ended up buying a set of Sprit Stars for my 58. he had i think 13-14 wheels and told me to pick the 4 i liked best. i got an awesome deal.

Great tribute Chris and Gina. I knew John for a number of years and he always made me feel like a friend. I remember trading him those polished 5 spokes for a bug and always wondering what he was going to stick'em on next. Trading convertables for a little mini cruise was a lot of fun. It was strange not seeing or hearing him at the GCVWS swap. Always full of energy when he was feeling good and excited about something. Can't believe it's been a year. Still can't believe he's gone. He is truly missed. :(

Thats a great tribute...

I remember meeting John the first time...It was about three years ago, at a swap, and I enjoyed how enthusiastic he was. I always loved meeting people like John: obsessed for the sheer pleasure of enjoying life to the fullest in what he loved. And full he was, with life, knowledge to share to complete strangers new on the scene like my self, always a smile, and a great car to express that obsession!

I will miss John, for I wish I got to know him more!

P.S.  Hey Kirin; Jason is still around. Hes really buisy getting his electician journeymans ticket. Ironically, it was Jason who introduced me to John!

You know it's funny, I can remember showing up at shows and not really knowing  very many people but he would always come up to us and say hello and ask how we were doing. He was always welcoming with his big smile and loud booming voice. I know Mike misses the car show chats they used to have, and I just miss his friendliness.

I only met him once at the vintage meet swap in Seattle about 9 years ago. He made quite the impression on me then...just a super nice guy who made you feel like an instant friend.
