It was Steve Stanbridge's car.  I believe he built it about 20 years ago.  It is still around, owned by someone in Washington State.  I believe it is black with red or orange flames.  I saw a pic of it on a website fairly recently, I will try to find it and post the link.

I have an old pic of it at Mission up against another beetle but it's packed away. I thought I saw it in Eddie Esposita's (however you spell it - bug shop guy) yard. Maybe that was another early drag car. thought it was pink and blue though. It's been awhile.

That car was in Duanes garage last year, but it was there for quite some time, like 2-3 years.  I thought Lorne ??? bought it.

Lorne has it in Vancouver BC and I think he would sell it if someone would be willing to finish it. It is pink and has a new chassis. I'll email him this posting and maybe he'll add some info and photos. Wayne

Yup I saw it about 2 weeks ago - It's in Surrey, and the right offer would buy it... If anyone is interested I can get you in contact with Lorne.

If I remember correct....this go's way back to the early 80's. Steve bought the car 62 i think? It was blue, rust free and a hell of a solid orig car. As he started to get into racing it went under the knife. First was a few light weight parts, then  he cut the nose off and installed the one pc front end. Later it had the roof removed and a cage installed it was black with blue flames at this time. Later it got the pink paint and graphics. It was sold to Chris Klump in the early 90's. Chris raced it for a while then lost intrest and sold it to Lorne.

Maybe someone will get it back on the track? Who knows?

The reason I ask is I have the origonal pan with the pink cage and a choped body to put on it.
I just wanted some history on the pan and some pick so I could try to figur out some stuff when I get to turning it back into a drag car.
This fram needs alot of work and time so it wont be fer awile that we see it back on the track with a new name, body and driver.

Thanks guys for all your info and help every little bit helps.

Keep in mind the old frame was sold because it wasn't legal for track use anymore.

The Weird Science car is for sale like Wayne said, Lorne was in the shop today with a list of all the parts plus car $6500

I don't have first hand info on what was the issue but I think it may have been the loops over the head that were not legal? Could be more but this was a few years ago that I heard this. I don't mean to scare you just don't want to see you show up to the track and find out you can't race it after all that work.
Geoff.

That's the same I heard Geoff.  The loops over the driver's head were originally higher and slightly behind.  Now they want them to be forward of the helmet.  There were many other issues with the cage that made the previous owner decide it was too much work.

You are not looking at the right section.  That rule would apply if the car had a roof (and it's now 11.499).  But since it does not have a roof, other more strict rules apply.
The tech guys at Mission know the car and it has been effectively banned until it is upgraded.

I believe he's talking about the original pan with a sedan body mounted on it. It would be good down to 11.49 under the new rules and possibly could pass down to 10.0 with a sedan body on it. Wayne

Cool , and that is Cory D.'s old car in the other lane.  At this time it's owned by a guy named Steve(I think)  who put a .......ford v6   in it.  I believe it ran 13's or 14's.  A far cry from the high 10's it ran in the late 80's at Ashcroft when Cory owned it with it's turbo VW power.  I didn't even know weird science ran at mission. Cool!

HansK,
I remember when the wierd science car was painted dark blue, and had California Import Parts and Flames on the car.  This is when Steve had his shop on Blackie Street in New Westminster.

Darren K (KROC) worked there, and a guy named Clarence that had a white bug.

Cory Dahl's old oval was a clean car, Cory has a shop in Port Kells, but is not into VDUBS anymore!

Memories.....

Oh ya that blue and white bug is now red and is still raced in ashcroft by a girle who now owns it and i think she is running a very strong 1914 in it.

Here is a shot I took at Sacramento  in around 1985 or 6. This was after the car was painted black with flames.
