Anyone out there ever try running lexan windows in their ride? Just curious about alternatives to glass as glass chips so easy when your cruisin down the freeway or ?, and most of the glass in our early VW's is flat anyways (all of it in our '65 bus). I've heard you can get it in all sorts of tints/colors too.  B)

lexan and plexi will both crack and scratch, stick to tempered glass.

I heard lexan will withstand the impact from a hammer. Jim if your on here I'd really like to hear about your experience good or bad. Also what colors options anyone knows of?

I have run Lexan in the oval rear three for 5 years, It works fine BUT!!!!!!!!!!!! you must never use it as a front windsheild or side windows in a street car. If you have a accident and it breaks it will be like a knife and probably remove your head. Always use safety glass in the front.

Also make sure you get the lexan with mar guard if you go that way. The mar guard will help stop the hazing and scratches.

i wanted to try polycarbonite windows just for the reason to test it myself and see how  durable it is.so far not bad,i had scraped one of the rear quarters when removing my rear seat .but i nailed it good with a sharp mounting bracket.damage is almost nil and there is a special cleaner/polish that when applied it is almost impossible to see.on the protective covering/wrap there is a list of thing to clean it with that wont damage it.but i have used .gas/brake clean/thinners /etc on some scrap pieces with no effect on it.also it does take alot of effort to mark.a blow with a hammer has little/no effect.plus if you are in a gun fight it will stop a .22 bullet.when i wash the car i don't wash the windows at all , after the car is washed i just wipe with windex.in a nut shell for my aplication its fine but for a everday driver id go with safety glass
-go see my friend richard at MHP fabrication unit#10  930 sw marine drive

-also this stuff is not cheap!! ,just bring in your old windows as a template i'm sure he has a 1/2 sheet left over from my project.

--take note on the warnings and risks mentioned by geoff as using it in the door could be nasty.
