Sandblaster

Currently, KMS tools has a 10 gallon Pressure Fed blaster for $150. I have a 2hp Speedaire, which should be good enough.

Has anyone used this size blaster on your vw's?

How well does it work?

Would you recommend it?

Any other home use blasters you would recommend?

Unless you have sandblasted before, the set up you're describing could do a lot of damage on body panels. After building many VW's in the past, I've found that a blast cabinet is a better purchase, leaving the bigger blasting jobs to the pros like B&W Metal Cleaners. Just my 2 bits.

In the south end of langley at 3094 194 st there's an a shop called Canadian Auto Restorations. They run a do-it-yourself sandblasting operation under a covered area at the side of their shop. The equipment is industrial heavy duty stuff and gets the job done quick. They charge $55/hr or $90/hr to do it for you.
If you have ever sandblasted yourself in your backyard, shop, ect. you know that clean up and the cost of sand will make $55/hr look pretty good. Another good place in langley for blasting is Langley U-Blast for cabinet blasting. They are on the east end of the langley bypass across the road for toyotatown. Nice people, reasonable prices.
Also I would be doubtful if a 2hp compressor can keep up to a sandblaster and moisture in your lines can cause real headaches when blasting, especially with a small compressor.

The Sandman in Abbotsford is very reasonably priced. I've found always cheaper than anyone around. I used Canadian Auto Resto (do it yourself option). I didn't find I saved any $$ because it took me longer than someone who does it all the time. It's pretty gross work too. I ended up with sand everywhere, and the mask they gave me to use kept clogging so I couldn't breathe. Very good guys at Canadian Auto Resto though!

If the parts are not too large, I have a large cabinet in my shop you can rent  for  a nominal fee .Let me know..
