Fenders Which Ones What Years
« on: October 15, 2005, 05:16:51 PM »
Heh guys, i have a my all original 1961 Deluxe Beetle and i am finally ready to start the resto now. The car is pretty solid car but a couple of the fenders are a little rough i have managed to find a couple of rear fenders with the dimple in the lip that attatches to the car which i believe is applicable for my year of car let me know if i am wrong though. And i have also found a few other front fenders but all of them seem to have slightly different measurements when comparing them to one another. I have one NOS og fender a couple that came of the same car that i got the og rear fenders off of and they look original and i have a set of new fenders that were made in Italy. The problem is i dont want to find out that the fenders dont match up with my apron, is this a common problem, give me some ideas on what to do. The fenders currently on the car have some rust holes and i dont feel like doing patch work to fix them up, i would sooner just use solid ones.

Thanx for any ideas you might have.

61 is right around the transition from the 'dimpled' fender to the later style. Not sure. I thought it was 1960. As for fender fit issues..that's a can O' worms. I've seen origional front fenders, both German, same year(67) that are different from one another. Headlight shape along with the 'wandering' horn grill. Most often, the body has been hit, causing the front or rear apron to fold down, causing many problems. The most important place to fit is where the fender turns at the top of the apron, everywhere else can be modded. Pretty hard to describe.
