I gave my boss close to 3 weeks notice that I'm leaving and moving on to a better opportunity. I had 2 weeks left today. I don't know if he's all pissed off at me now or what, but he had no work for me Wed. a couple hours today, and nothing tomorrow or the next, he said if it doesn't get busier he's gonna have the office girl do up my papers and cut me lose early. I should not have been the nice guy and given that much notice, just a couple days I guess, then I could have kept working.

phew....had to vent that one.....

Matt, Maybe call your new Boss, and see if there is anything you could do for him early.. I bet he would probably pay you to get you company vehicle ready.

Matt thats typical body shop mentality . the one thing I learnd is give a weeks notice max. But plan to go home that day B)

That sucks man.

But (and I don't know for sure, I started my own biz 5 years ago), but when you give your notice doesn't he still have to keep you working?

I mean, you did the 'right' thing. Isn't there a law or something that says he has to keep you on for the next 2-3 weeks, and if he doesn't, he has to pay you for early termination.

(Well, actually, I'm pretty sure he does. Otherwise, whenever someone gave their 'notice', they'd just cut them loose). Too bad if he doesn't have work for you, I think he still has to pay you.

Employees who voluntarily terminate their employment are not entitled to written notice of termination or compensation pay. Final wages, including any outstanding wages such as annual vacation pay, statutory holiday pay and overtime either worked or in a time bank, must be paid to the employee within six days after the employee

Matt, it's illegal for him to lay you off because you gave notice. He's obligated to pay you until your last day. Keep going in there. Bring a magazine if there's nothing to do. If you stop going in there, you've just let him off the hook. He can then fire you without notice.

having him fire you is the best thing that could happen. Without written and signed warnings he would be legally obligated to pay you severance pay. If you've been there for a while that can add up.
