I Was Ripped Off
« on: August 23, 2005, 08:41:42 PM »
I am hoping I am wrong but it seems like a was ripped off last night/this morning - if it is a prank it's not so funny.

I had a late (long axle) swing axle in front of my place ( around the corner from my garage so not directly on my driveway ) as it was being picked up to go to Jason in Salmon Arm. I put it there last night and this evening when the truck came it was gone. There was an old KL beam there as well that wasn't touched so I am assuming they knew what they were getting and therefor are into VW's...

This is more of a let down than a piss-off - the tranny was being given to J for his 68 along with an engine and other small parts that luckily were in my garage.

So in short if you are offered a cheap tranny, long axle, from a 68 - it needs one boot replaced - please let me know

I'll take a guess and say it was one of those dirt-bag scrap haulers I see all over the place. Same thing happened to me a couple years ago but they stole a hole pan from my grandparents' back yard  ]:(  WITH the tranny and beam still on it!

Good luck man! I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Not sure if it was scrap haulers - they would have grabbed the beam that was right beside it too I would think. Plus I live on a dead end street so it's not like it would have been someone just friving by and seeing it by chance.

That's f@#in' bull#$%!  I hate thieves. Hate is a strong word I know, but I don't use it much accept for f%@in' theives. Why should I have to work and pay for things just to have some lazy ass criminal take it. That's my rant for the day. Like you said it might be someone into VW's to steal a trans. You'd hope not. I've got a '59 split case trans beside the house. Maybe I'd better lock it. Better yet someone come take it off my hands for free.

Ya.. I'm kinda wondering about Sry/ Langley..  ]:(
Last month I took a fish tank down to mom's for storage. It was a 150 gal custom acrylic tank.
THe darn thing was in the driveway for exactly 45 min.... we went outside and it was GONE! Middle of the freaking day!!!!!!!
It would have taken 2 men and a truck to take the darn thing.

I live in a nicer upscale area with newer houses and not alot of rentals - in 4 years our Jetta was almost stolen once - as were several other Jetta's in the area so it was a targeted thing not random and that's it.

It's not about the monatary value of the tranny as I was giving to J anyways it's just a piss off that this happened to a VW part as I have other \"valuable\" things in the area it was taken from but they were left so it kinda leads me to believe it was a VW person. And I would never hesitate to trust a VW person so it kinda jades my perspective somewhat.

Oh well I guess nothing is sacred if someone wants it - kinda like those ICBC commercials that thieves will steal anything.

james that bites hard. There's nothing I hate more than a thief, so if we find 'em I'm in for the skull bashing.

You should move out to Abby, nothin bad has happened to me in 2 whole years! compared to the shit-hole of Surrey where everything went bad in 6 months.

You're disappointed. I'm pissed. Looks like its me and my twin brother Matt for the skull bashing. Found the last guy that stole my rims from Abby about 6 yrs ago. Made the f#$@ leave his car on its axles. Was better than the tire iron alternative I gave him I guess  ;)

I am disappointed if it were a VW guy. I too trust all VW people and it kind of jades me too. I mean look at all the nice people I have met on this board. One guy has given me a 63 convertible another one has given me a really cool squareback. Delivered them and gave me cash. I mean where else can you meet people like this??

I thought he was going to piss himself. I got out of the car by the super save on Fraser Hwy in Aldergrove, smiled, popped the trunk grabbed the iron and explained that he was either going to take off my rims right then and there or I was going to royally f$%# up his hands so he couldn't steal again. He started whining about not having blocks so I said we could leave his car like he left mine.....on its axles!

Called the cops when I got home. They didn't like my tactics but did appreciate the call.  IT did feel good to catch the thief though.
