Pistol Pete's wrecked car after being in a head-on with a Federal Express truck

Everyone send some positive thoughts down south for Pete, looks like he will need them.

This post is from Volksrods:

Ok, everybody... I don't think I need to tell everyone about Pete's accident.

http://volksrods.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11154

I'd like to see us all pull together like the strong family that we are, and see if we can get some help to Pete and his wife, Melanie.

Pete's always been one of the first to jump up and help any one of us, whenever he could... Let's do the same, guys.

Medical bills are not cheap... let alone that his pride and joy is now scrap sheetmetal.

Donations can be made to Pete through PayPal at this address:

pistolpete76@verizon.net

Let's do what we can folks.

If you frequent other forums... please get this out there as well!

A quick update, all donations are being fed through Steve from Volksrods.com paypal acct here, volksrodder@comcast.net.

The Volksrod community is unsure if Pete's wife has access to his paypal acct.

Thanks for posting this James. I'm down at Steve's right now. We went to Portland yesterday to see Pete's wife Melanie and she seems to be holding up pretty well. She would like to thank everyone for pulling together to help her and Pete out during this very hard time. Thanks to everyone on just about every car related site all over the world, we were able to deliver a cheque to Melanie for $3000 and more donations are constantly coming in. Pete is in stable condition but he is not quite out of the woods yet., so keep those positive thoughts, prayers or whatever you can flowing in his direction. With all the support we have seen so far I am sure he is going to pull through.

Thank you.

I can't stop thinkin about how much support Pete has.  Truly an amazing thing how this many people can come together when it is really needed.

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, check out volksrods.com and see for yourself.

Makes me proud just to be associated.

I agree with you 100%, Beetleman. All reports so far say that the Fedex driver was uninjured but I am sure he feels horrible about the whole ordeal. I don't know if he is aware what has been going on as far as the donations and everything else.

I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone that has donated so far, both for donations and prayers/good thoughts toward Pete and his family. Since the first cheque was delivered to Melanie on Friday, we have raised another $1500 and donations are still constantly coming in.
I am truly proud to be a part of the VW community.

Here's the latest update from Melanie.

Quote
Hi guys, oh, and girls too! Today, I was only able to see Pete a couple of times, as I had some running around I HAD to do. AGain, thanks for all your helpful advice/information. I'm taking most of this week off, but by Friday, I'm going to have decided to either stay where I\"m at, or move on to the new job. I think it would work out insurance wise to make the switch, but I\"m just not sure if I\"m ready mentally. As the days go on, I'm becoming quite a mess. but enough about ME[ so sorry!!!! Pete is doing the same today. I'm upset because he needed more blood, but what can you do? it's just such a scary thing. He's going to be getting a trachiotomy, so they can put the tube directly into this throat, apparently its fairly standard, and will allow them to remove/add back the oxygen a lot easier. This is going to happen tomorrow. He's still on the sedative, but they take him off of it at the shift changes, which would be twice a day, I belive and see if he responds. If not, they put him back on it, I think they're thinking is if he's not able to open his eyes yet, might as well keep him REAL calm. It's really sad and hard to go through, all the waiting. Obviously I'm VERY happy he's still here, fighting, it's just getting discouraging. Reading all your posts does help me, so thank you for that. You guys are all so great. I noticed that get well card and all your happy birthday wishes. How cool is that?! He'll be so excited when he can read all of them. OH! and as for Nick's cooking, I totally heard allll about that when he met you guys. He went on and on about how \"bloody good dinner was and how great of a cook Nick is\" so I know that whoever wins is getting a GREAT meal. Thank you again you guys. You've really done so much already. I don't expect anything. The mental support is enough!! I will write again tomorrow.

I should also mention that all the support is not just coming from the VW community. We have received donations and well wishes from all facets of the auto world, from traditional hotrodders to import tuners to off roaders and everything in between. The amount of support we have received from outside the VW world is nothing short of astonishing. I just hope that we can keep this momentum for a while because Pete and Melanie have a long road ahead of them.

Just reading all the posts and support stuff just puts things into perspective and how at times we take our lives for granted. The VW family never fails to amaze me, I dont know pete or his wife but offer my thoughts and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Huge update from last night!

QUOTE(Melanie @ Jul 10 2005, 01:50 AM)
WHEW! what a day!  You guys would not believe it.  Thanks to Eric for letting you all know.  What a guy he is!!!!  Ok, so last night he was trying as hard as he could to wake up, but the poor guy was so drugged. The nurse last night finally explained to me just how much he really has been on ..a SHIT load.  I couldn't believe it.  Then today, they turned down the sedative half way, and he opened his eyes a little, turned it down a bit more, opened his eyes a LOT, turned it ALL the way off, he smiled at me, opened his eyes when I asked him to, and then was even responding when asked questions.  he can move his head up and down for a \"yes\".  I said \"can I kiss you on the cheek\" I got a YES. ha ha. It was so awesome.  Then I kept yacking in his ear and I could tell he was getting really sleepy, so I said \"Do you want me to go now and let you sleep?\" he said YES.  haha. WELL! the NERVE. I'm so just kidding.  Poor guys is so tuckered out.  Well, as you can probably tell, I'm VERY happy, and I wanted to share this with all of you that have taken such a huge interest in my husband, and have been so nice and generous and supportive and encouraging.  I thank each and every one of you.    Pete's brother Tony reads this website a lot, and I know it's been of great comfort to him.  You guys are all so amazing.  He wasn't able to come over with mum and dad, but I know he'll get to see Pete real soon.  Thanks again everybody. I'll write again tomorrow. I think it's going to be slow small steps, but all steps toward recovery! yippy

hey there guys guess who we got talking here now? no taker's?  that's right guys' it's the Pistol himself. I got home late due to schedule loss but made it home now, greeted to pets, all the bloody pets and the wifey and my folks from down under  and here I am now to thank everyone for sending me their good thoughts whilst I have been at the hospital recovering. (they weren't lying) I jump up thinking, hmm what happened? I was in a wreck in the bug and I am hurt? no worries, let me out of here and let me beat out and re painted that bug and get driving. They said your just looking at you right now. you recovered really quick, crazy quick!!! but your bug is a whole other story. Apparently its at some local wrecking yard in a pile and it' so folded all kinds of ways but normal. A LOT of work to get back to normal. SO I am very bummed my poor bug is did. I was so hoping to fix it but I cant. I really appreciate your deposits to help me threw all this hospital mess, boy its a mess, but I'll be done soon and put together another car the Pistol Pete Part 2 and be on my way again.
You guys mean it all to me right now. It's got me a long long way thibking of ALL you guys to help me get better. and I hope after I am finally done with rehabd i can get out, get my sight straight and pinstripe something up for you guys.  Shit i might have to buy a old bike now to ride around on.Sorry about my typo's etc, i can barely see and my sight is all off but thanks again. I will stay in touch and I'd like to thank my wife Melanie for helping me out so far with everyone. The next time it will be me with some more progress!!

Any of you that read VolksWorld magazine have probably noticed the centerspread renderings by Eric Black. Eric just happens to be a friend of Pete's and a Volksrods.com member and was able to pull some strings and put together a special get well Pete centerspread for next month's issue. Here's a LINK. Check out Eric's work at EBlack Design.
