Tranny Fluid Change?
« on: May 20, 2005, 10:01:18 PM »
hey everyone, i need to change my tranny fluid. just wondering if anyone knows of a place that could do it. cant be a jiffy lube or anything. i cant fit over their rails, that prevent your tires from falling into the pit. i am too low, unless there is a place with out those.
thanks
james.

that is an option. it is easy to get the fluid out, is there an easy way to put it back in?

Locate both the filler and drain plugs.  Using your 17mm hex driver, first loosen the filler plug.  Then loosen the drain.  With the car level on the ground, remove the drain plug and dump the old juice.  You can jack the front of the car up a bit to encourage the oil in the forward part of the trans to slide back towards the diff.  Once it is finished draining, put the plug back in.

Now raise the left side as high as you can go and remove the left tire.  Open the filler and pour in precisely 2.5 liters.  The commonly available oil bottles have a tapered end on them.  I use a piece of 3/8 in hose and force it over the tapered end.  Then stick this into the filler hole and squeeze the contents of the bottle out.

I thought the capacity was 2.5 and the amount you put in is actually 2.0L?  I think that's what the manual says (gotta check as I'm adding tranny fluid soon).

buy yourself a cheap suction type syringe style applicator for automotive use specifically for that purpose. Any local automotive shop should have it.

regarless of exact quantity your gonna need to buy 3Liters of gear oil.

i was able to get it done today. i was a bitch to get the filler plug off but with some patients, and creativity i was able to get it off. i also bought a pretty interesting funnel that added 1 litre at a time. so i was able to add exactly 2.5 litres, i worked out great.
thanks
james.
