My Day Today :)
« on: May 10, 2005, 04:55:32 PM »
So I got up today, was happy to have sold some parts to a fellow forum member, so I hooked my trailer up and made a trip to the dump to get rid of some stuff and then head over to Airspeed to get some more parts for my car and then I was lucky enough to make a new friend today, such a nice guy, he even left something to remember him by on my bus........

You can get a written reciept and ICBC will reimburse the cost of the repair to you, I've done it before and found that you get way more for your dollar value compared to what you would at a big box bodyshop that has to go by the book and won't work with the customer.

How many collision shops have you delt with besides Maaco? any body shop will bend over backwards for their customers.

Jason will not be able to charge the full rate ICBC pays accredited body shops, simply because he is not accredited.

Alternatively, Chris could take a buyout on it, around 80% of the claims value and have the work done himself. or live with the damage.

Ya, I've heard of that. A cash payout or whatever. There are many reputable body shops in that area. Able (sp?) autobody in Port Kells was a good outfit when I was living out there. I was simply saying that if it came to Chris havin to deal with a bunch of BS from his neighbour and getting stuck with the damage, I would help him out as I would most people on this forum.

Not to shit on what Jason's saying but personally, I've never ever had a good thing to say about any the \"big-box\" (Craftsman,Kirmac,Boyd etc) bodyshops around here and that includes Able and all 30+ of they're associate stores.
There's a small independant and ICBC accredited shop in Whalley right by Tom the Tire Guy called Dan the Man's Autobody. The owner is Dan Lowney who is brothers with Ed Lowney (Owner of The Bug Shop) and he's a great guy along with his stellar bodyman Bruce.
Bruce did my first car years ago and to this day loves working on VW's for some strange reason (everyone I've ever talked to hates them). I think his shop's still small enough that he'd bend the rules for ya a little and make it worth your while going to see him at least.

That's just my 2 cents though.

I'm one of those people that would hate them. Dan the man's is the reason I got into the autobody trade. after he fucked me over I decided I wouldn't be screwed by a bodyshop again, I'd do all the work myself. It took them 4 tries to match a color and do all the repairs after a hit and run on my 71 fastback, it still looked like ass, but I was so fed up I didn't want to go back.

IMHO, Chris, stay as far away from this place as you can.

It's like any other trade. Good carpenters, electricians (Mowser rocks by the way), mechanics and body men. You gotta do your homework. Take a look in the parking lot at the finished products. A busy shop doesn't ALWAYS mean a good shop. Good luck with your search Chris and let me know if I can help you out.

Hey 76 bus,
You may want to try Dumore's collision. They did some excellent work on my buddys 02 after it got hit and run in Vancouver last year. They are good guys. Hopefully you will get an ICBC appraiser that sheds a tear when he sees your bus.
