Should ICBC expand the Collector program?

ICBC has been asked to look into expanding their Collector and Modified Collector vehicle programs. By taking their 4 question online survey, you can help them determine how to proceed. The information they gather will be used only for the purpose of this program evaluation. They will not use it for marketing or any other purposes. The survey closes on Friday, May 6, 2005.

Done.  How can a replica be considered a collectable?  Seemed like an odd question.  I can see it where say Geoff has taken an old beetle floorpan and created the Hebrod.  It's still on a \"collectable\" age specific platform made to look like a collectable vehicle (SORT OF).  Just my 2 cents.

\"additional ornamental, or safety related, period-specific aftermarket parts/accessories\"

So what we're talking about here for VWs is fender skirts, wide whitewalls, roof racks, etc..........?

Wuhoooo, gotta get me one of those Rolls Royce front hood kits for a Super !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard last week from a reliable source that 40 year old+ modified collector cars will have a new policy available by hopefully by next year. Possibly no more Aircare baloney in the future! Cheaper rates for cars that are not driven as often. Finally! Probably not available on a primary use vehicle. Good for us people that can't hack driving a beetle year round....

I don't see this helping any of us with big engines.
Dellortos and Weber IDFs are not period specific, and 48IDAs, although they are period specific for any mid 60s car, they aren't \"ornamental\" or \"safety related\" parts by any stretch of the imagination.  Same goes for a big-ass single V8 type muffler.
You could probably keep your GTV steering wheel and Hurst shifter.

I would like to see our antique and collector registration go more like the system used in Washington State. The idea was that if you are keeping a thirty or forty year old vehicle, it was for sentimental purposes, or something like that. Not to use as a daily driver. These simple rules make life easier for the owners, and the government bureaucracy.

In Washington, a collector car is:
At least thirty years old; and
Capable of being operated upon the highway; and
Currently registered in Washington; and
Operated primarily as a collector vehicle may be issued a collector vehicle license plate.
An antique car is forty years old, instead of thirty.

The legislation can be read at http://www1.leg.wa.gov/documents/wsr/2001/...4/01-04-017.htm
about half way down the page.

Being residents of Washington, maybe Tom H. or Fred H. could give us some input.
