Oval Winshield
« on: April 21, 2005, 08:34:13 AM »
Can any lucky oval owners tell me the dimentions of the winshield? I am wondering if it would be too much hassle doing a chop on a 59 using an oval rag clip. how much did Jim Martin chop his? I realize his is an original but it is the perfect balance ( I think it bugs look a little rediculous with a 6\" front window) Are there any good tech articles out there on this topic?  thanks boys

I just read some of jim's 8 page thread and he chopped his roof 5\" - looks perfect!!! But then I read that the car started life as a '68 not an oval, did I read that right?

jim will correct me if i'm wrong here, but his car is (was B) ) a 68. and as far as i know, the only unmodified peice of glass on his car is the rear oval glass.

josh, anything is possible and you should be able to graft an oval rag roof onto your 59 while chopping the roof at the same time. however, you're going to have to modify the glass. a 59 windshield is slightly larger than an oval windshield, but imo, if you're going to chop the roof, you'll want to get a modified peice of glass for the windshield. you'll also need to modify or get custom door and rear glass.
