i dont mean to be rude but what could one expect to be paid? and if succesful in completing the apprentiship what do journeymen get paid im currently a 2nd year apprentice auto technician and young but  not sure if i could fix cars for the rest of my life at 23 an hour because that is what the top guy in the shop gets there flat rate and hes been there for 10 years and barely makes 8 hours a day. then you factor in the cost of tools and i cant see it being worth it i know its not all about the money, but money makes the world go round i currently make 12.50 Hr but if there is better oppurtunities at hydro.... who knowsa maybe time for a career change

if memory serves, I think you will start around $22 top rate is almost $30 plus benefits, its a good gig to get into! If I wasnt already apprenticing at my job I would jump on this.

i wouldnt worry too much about it, after you do your time you have a ticketed trade, you can work anywhere then. There is more security there then at your 12.50 hour job.

doesnt matter, these types of jobs will always be around, they cant just sell off hydro and lay off everyone, it doesnt work like that, worst case you end up working for a contractor driving around in the hydro truck, bc hydro is not going anywhere anytime soon, just apply you have a better chance then not applying, and if your still being a wuss about it you could always say no.

telus is hiring as well, if you have any related experience, telephone work, data wiring, electrical, etc, they are looking for upwards of 200 people for permanent full-time jobs, after training you will make around $20 per hour, that is the only place that I would worry about job security right now.

can you do both? ask yer boss if it'd be okay to go part-time for a bit, while you explore this option and save up the cash for school?

i know it's tough to change mid-stream while in school, but hydro pays *really* well, and there's an increasing amount of people retiring there. i'm a little biased, cos my dad worked there for 30 years, but it is a good company that has a lot of different areas for promotion/transfer/etc. oh, and last i heard, they also employed mechanics too. something to consider.
Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.
