Shipping Heavy Stuff In Canada? Best Rates?
« on: March 02, 2005, 10:23:40 AM »
I need to ship a bunch of stuff from Van Isle to Calgary.  Engine, transmission, sway bars, odds & ends.  Does anyone have recommendations for low cost ground transport freight companies?  I'm not in a hurry so would rather not drop a grand to get this stuff here overnight.

Danke schoen.

I've used Greyhound and they are cheapest (I think)

Slammedbus has a buddy in the moving/freight business - Mur's Moving - maybe he will be making that trip soon and can include your stuff? He picked up J's bus from my place the other night and was very professional - I am going to use him when my car comes home :)

Vitran (Trans Western)... is very reasonable.

Things to keep in mind

Residential area pick-up is an extra cost
Power tailgate is also an extra cost
Has to be on a pallet that can be picked up with a pallet jack

Any courier will pick-up but the trucking companies are cheaper even with the extra charges.

You are looking at 350 pounds with a pallett  Greyhound would do 100 pounds max per package

A friend of mine has used a freight forwarded here in Calgary before.  I'm going to give them a try.  It looks like I have to go Victoria March 18th for work, so I'll see how much oversized baggage Air Canada will let me have ;)
