Looking for a radio to fit my 59 single cab? I have lots to trade including beetle radio's.
Does not have to work or be in perfect shape, The more it is ugly the more i will like it!
Tell me what is out there! Cheers!

You know, I came across my single cabs radio just last fall... It took me ten years to find a good radio for an early bus- If I see any at shows this year I'll buy it, think about telling you and then ummmm.... maybe I'll tell you. :P

sick bastard, must be my US accent.

I have about three of those locks, but you can get nicer ones at Wolf'sWest...

Let me know if you're serious! I'd practically give one (lock) to you if you want to drive a few miles.

Must be that a lot of 50's 60's buses were commercial "trucks". I bet the radio option was too expensive in most cases? Maybe it just wasn't possible to hear the thing over the high reving 36 horse! Ever drive a panel van??? I couldn't hear myself think!

My Dad bought a beetle in 73, brand new. He couldn't afford the Super Beetle, so he bought a standard (thank goodness). He couldn't afford a radio either, so he waited three years and bought the correct radio at a wrecking yard! I still own and drive this car and the radio still works fine!

Just goes to show the type of people buying a VW then... Not much like now! Shame.

There is a guy that is usually at Puyallup with a bunch of stuff (including a bunch of radios) I scored a 67 only bus saphire v for $15 bucks w/correct knobs & bus face plate. Have to be a real bus slut to appreciate that. Do you know what saphire # was correct for 59? B)

Nah. I think a stock radio dresses up a dash pretty nice. Seen way too many block off plates too. I will try to find out what radio you need. The bus up in Spences bridge has one up on a shelf in the back. If you can get a hold of the owner I am interested in the bus. It is roughly a Euro 61 so should have correct radio for your single. I have some radios lying around.  Let me know what the name/type is you want, and I'll have a look.

A picture would be better.  (Or a link to Bus radios etc)

Any saphire I, II, or III would fit the hole and look correct. Just need to find a bus face plate (ie, without the chrome spears for the beetle dash trim)

50 bucks USD, you pay shipping from Seattle.  I should add, I received these radios when I purchased my dbl cab last year.  The old guy says they work, but I have no idea, I have never tried them.  One has the bus face plate and they both do not have knobs.  But if you are looking for something to take up the dash space I am sure they will perform the operation quite well.  Let me know if you are interested.

You guys should have seen the beetle the guy destroyed behind the bus. It was clean! They shot it up and than ran over it....again .......and again......and again.
I caught them just before they shot up the bus.(Which was interesting walking into a yard with six dogs and some CRAZY dude with a gun!)

Turns out my unlce new him, so got the bus for parts, Will be bringing it home after the bug snow!

sent pics.  Do you want it?  I can give it to one of the guys coming down today.  I rather give it to one of them then have to go through customs and ship it.  I shipped out some carbs last month to a guy up there, and he still has yet to receive them.

Steve,
Date came and went.  I will be coming up to Whistler in December.  We can meet sometime, or I can send it up.  Let me know what you want to do.
