So my buddy with his 1998 GTI VR6 figures that its ok to back out of a driveway and then head striaght up a snow/ice covered hill with bald summer tires. he has been buying all these aftermarket parts for his car but not winter tires (IDIOT

) haha, anyways, he slid down a hill about 150 meters before the corner came and the street became flat. the street is a dead end, so the only way out is to drive it out. well, after buying some chains, it was no problem at all....but I didn't want the same thing to happen to me. So a light bulb went off in my head thinking about the great stories my grandfather used to tell me about his 65 beetle in the snow. So I decided to drive my car....aircooled style. I backed up the hill and through a few streets. traction was awesome. Rear wheel drive, rear engine and good snow tires. I had no problems. :lol:

I go to school at kwantlen in surrey, and the roads were terrible...Stay safe out there.

Any other interesting driving experiences?

Oh boy.
Well my buddy(Al Canuck) got his 535I going again yesterday after having a fuel pressure regulator problem. Anyways on Falken tires(can't remember the exact type) Can you say lots of backend breakouts? Oh yeah and it was awesome sitting in the middle of the street with the back tires just spinning. Even my 1wd wonder had no traction but holy fun donuts.
I just kind of stayed in and am about to go out in a bit and do a snow video..

How is driving in reverse in the snow safe? and a Private Street??? uhmmm ok, you mean like you neighbourhood streets?? where kids are playing etc.... Good thing your 18 and sooooo responsible..

How many of us have gotten stuck and threw the car in first and pushed it out? I have again not safe but a necessity sometimes. Like one christmas day I was out hunting vw's getting away from the family and went up a backroad that had not been travelled all winter but as we know vw beetles can go anywhere. Well the rear tire slipped off the road and I was stuck. I was out in the middle of nowhere so threw it in 1st and started pushing. Finally got it and drove home.

Just saw my neighbour try and approach her driveway like 3 times... lol... funny lady.

Some front wheel pos americana she's all sliding down her driveway sideways... thinking she can reverse UP the hill and reapproach it - almost ends up in another neighbours yard.... gawd... me and my brother stood watching her maneuver for 5minutes before we got tired of standing.

We would have helped almost any other neighbour out with a push... but this lady just doesn't get nuttin from us no more! She kept forgetting how to start the lawnmower so we'd have to show her... when we finally decided to stop, she went accross the street and got another neighbour to do it... One of those people you just kinda wonder what their dayjob is and how in the hell they've managed to survive this long.

And Stephan, all the old fogies are just jealous of our beautiful youth. I'm sure you did what you needed to do in a safe manner. I wouldn't be bold enough to claim it was 'stupidity' without all the facts either, then again I'm 'young' too.

thats funny. I was driving down towards marine drive the other day and some guy thought his car was amazing in snow, so he hit the brakes to stop and slid into the side walk. he just kept driving on the side walk for a few meters and then got off of it and drove on.

funny people.

i just moved to the coast about 4 months ago from 100 mile house and i think my worst snow drivin experience happened last year, ok here goes it was 10:00 in the PM my wife and i were drivin around in my bronco 2 waiting for my roomate to get home as i locked the keys in the house (stupid me) so we found a logging road looked relativly plowed oh wait i forgot to mention it was -20 and there was at least 2 and 1/2 feet of snow on the ground anyways drivin down the loggin road chattin away and didnt even realize that the road wasn't plowed anymore so now i'm drivin through packed down snow from the snowcat so we stopped I got out and locked the hubs in and tried to turn around no luck the motor was overheatin the clutch was smoking but i finaly got going again the same way so we drove through this alittle longer and found a hill and tried to turn around again by this time my wife and i were sh*ting ourselves cuz we didnt want to walk out of this as we were 40km's in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of wildlife another thing i forgot to mention my wife was 6 months pregnant so we tried turning around again with my preggo wife pushing on the hood and after another 10 minutes we were turned around but still stuck about half hour later we made it out of there. It was pretty scary at the time but now that i think about it it's pretty funny :blush:

We got our first snow here (N. Seattle) late last night...jumped in the new 912E and slid around for a few minutes. Just after I got in the house, I looked out the window to see some dumbass in a Ford Fiesta tryin' to do donuts on the blind turn in front of my house
