hmmmm  same price as a Pauter T1 with all the goodies.

except you can drive this one on the street and it uses a stock T4 case and heads

Were all not going to sell out 200hp t1 motors to to build 210hp t4 motors for twice the price but that is one hell of a monster motor.

I agree T1 is where it's at,

I posted this for everyone to see the DARK SIDE

239 max hp  at 6000 rpm
flat torque curve
10.3:1 compression
head temps not even above 350 with 5000 rpm for 3 minutes

I would have to rate this one as a Clydesdale

Expensive....... heck ya!!! my estimate is $8000.00 U.S. in parts the rest $3500.00 in labour

A real eye opener forsure.

One day.......One day........  there will be a T4 monster living here in the N.West

That is an expensive motor especially when they only do 16s in the 1/4 mile. If all else fails TURBO it! ;)

At least they finish the quarter mile not broken :rolleyes: hahahah..........

this motor on the dyno has lasted longer than your motor lasted at 90 miles per hour for what ...4 seconds :lol:  :lol:   umm....which motor is expensive???  Oh right your motor didn't even get to 90 miles an hour. :D

Actually Kev, it was 14.3 @ 93 mph. I came and did what I had to do, doesnt really matter what happened after! Just wait I have some other stuff in the works and I WILL hit the 13s (even if it kills me). Lets see you do that in your sled. ;)  Im pretty sure our cars weigh about the same.

Yea I will also hit 13's..... but only with a turbo.  I too have some funky stuff going on my car.

WBX motor aka wasserboxer. Now thats type1 on steroids.  If only there were monster WBX motors over here instead of Europe. I was discussing this with a guy who lives in Europe.  Trick stuff they have in Europe for the WBX motors.  Someone is selling an SE head (clone) that is a direct bolt on to the wasserboxer case. So you can have ungodly 90mm cranks with type 4 mains and the reliability of a small displacement motor.  Type 1 construction with some odd mods.  The Volumetric efficiency of the type 1 head in a huge displacement reliable grocery getter aircooled motor. wow.

The guy I was talking too has a 12.3s 1/4 car with an engine that he hasn't touched for 60or 70,000 km!!! Now thats what you call a bad ass motor. As far as $$$ I'd think the heads(modified type 1's) would be just as expensive as a type 4 tricked heads but basically the same guts as a type 1.

Yea I had the idea of building a 76 x 101.6 with superflow heads  until I could not find any main bearings, this was 2 years ago, I now know there are bearings available for $$$, but  I have a T4 now.

Maybe when I get tired of a turbo T4 I'll try something different.

Hey Kev,

I think owning a grenade type 1 is bearable. Cost is a large part in hipo parts and breakage is another.  Not disrespecting anyone here I'm just drooling over the potential of other engine possibilities. Reliability is the concern to all of us. T4's are more resilient than type 1's but most would say t4 have a different approach in putting the engine components together. Hell whatever works and whatever stays together. Head flow numbers is also another issue. Dan made a good point about VE in the type 1 heads per CC (engine size) which makes complete sense.  That is why the WBX platform is bits and pieces of both worlds. Type 1 heads are more efficient...plain and simple.

Jake's engine is impressive \"yes\" but the cost scares the sh!! out of me. Reliable high hp motors is what we all want. Even hardcore v8 guys pull apart motors in a timely fashion to fix or do preventative maintenance. sh!! I've had my share of absolute  migrane's with my type 1 but you know what  its part of the game of driving hard and breaking parts.  In the grand scheme of things breaking ACVW parts is nothing compared to real hardcore drag cars and drag bikes.  

Forced induction will make your t4 scream.

Kevin, what you aren't reading is that Jake indirectly admitted that 239hp cost $28,000 USD.  
That's just under $38,000 CDN.

I'm not impressed in any way.

Jake has said in the past a 170 hp engine is close to $7000.00  Anything over 180hp is double and starting at 14000.00 U.S.

1 heck of a price tag I agree

That's why I chose a T4 turbo, I'm too cheap.

I do remember him saying about 1 year ago he built a 2276cc motor that was $23,000( included instal and very near perfect in every way) for a french chef for the very last triple white convertible shipped to the U.S.

Way too much and it seems like a rip off, but some people want a good job and don't mind the $$.

Jake regulalry gets in the old porsche carrera's and charges $2700.00 to do a valve adjustment on the 4 cam engine.  Ouch.....  but if you could afford a $200,000 car you should be able to afford the adjustments, as there are not very many places that even know where to start.


Everything is in proportion.  If you make so much money you spend x amount, it works whether you make 30,000 or 300,000.  I think most of us fall closer to 30,000 though as we are all complaining of the same things.

I know one engine builder that routinely charged around 12K usd for turn key 220 hp T1s, in mid '90s dollars. There is also a engine builder on the net that is a bit of, ahhhh, of an exaggerator imho.

There are some parts that can drive the expense of an engine up rather sharply, in one fell swoop. I know ;)
