Plug Wires
« on: December 25, 2004, 05:56:16 PM »
So i checked my plug wires with a multimeter, (on the conitinuity setting)  and the meter only went like quater of the way up , i did a plug wire on my dads van and the meter went right up to the max point, i was wondering does this mean my plug wires are shot? and could this be making my cars performance not all that it could be?

Not to sure about testing them but I'd say if they are more then a few years old, replace them with a bosch set. Skip the fancy colored units.

Buy a real set of wires, buy local these wires are awesome.
Get a set of Aurora's they are made here in BC I have them in my truck they will make custom lengths and everything just tell them what you want. I used to have MSD's and Jacobs at one time and these are built way the hell better and they have a guarnatee.

Aurora'a are good wires, but if you use a MSD HVC-II coil, you are negating the high spark energy of the MSD coil.

The HVC coil outputs were made for a low impedance wire, such as the MSD 40-50 Ohms per foot.  Aurora wires are about 400 Ohms per foot...8 to 10 times the impedance of the MSD wires.

You just get more options with plug heat ranges when your spark energy is fatter.

Just my $.02.

Umm......by colored , I ment like those cheepo empi or bugpack sets that people end up buying because they look pretty.  I thought maybe he was just running a 009 and blue coil or something.  But thanks for the info guys , I didn't know about the aurora's.

Airspeed sells the top quality German Bosch 7mm Silicone wires in the glossy box.  Those wires come with a lifetime warranty.  I bought a set 15+ years ago and that same set is still on the car with over 150k km on them.

Don't get me wrong...Jeff makes a great set of wires.  They are made locally, guaranteed, and are relatively cheap, considering they are a premium wire set (around $55 bucks plus tax  ).

Just best to run MSD wires if you run an MSD coil.
