I think this may just be rumor. A friend of mine just got hired to write some articles for them...infact I think there is one in this month's magazine. i never realized how magazines pay to write an article on like how to rebuild a jackstand. I was excited that a Canadian was writing for a vw magazine, we need more representation.

I am really not a friend of Trends, as I read Volksworld, but i will make a comment in their defence. Latley they have been more original in the cars that they have featured, and they are looking at a lot more euro look cars instead of the cal look. I'll hold my comments back on the Cal look thing, as I know a lot of people are big fans, but that is one of the things I despise the most about How Vw's. How many red bugs with empi's do I have to look at?

i'm pretty sure it's true.

apparently randy at oldbug.com recieved a message from ryan price at vwtrends that the mags publisher, prime media, is dropping them.

i'm not really surprised. they seem to have a tainted image and i've heard more bad than good about vwtrends. i had a subscription a long time ago but decided to cancel. imho, the content was lacking, the editing was poor, the paper and colour was sub-par and it only showed up in my mailbox 2/3's of the time.

it is a shame that jobs are lost at this time of year and that there will be 1 less vw mag on the shelves. but again, imho, i'm not going to miss it.

i dont think this should hurt the hobby to much. vw's seem as popular as ever these days. ultravw is a new mag and they seem to be going strong. and the internet sites are plentifull and there still seems to be alot of successfull vw shows in all parts of the world all year long.

Just got a call from a official source, Trend is gone! As of last night the magazine will no longer be. The Feb issue is ready to ship  (it may or may not) The Mar issue was ready for print but was pulled. So as it looks Feb will be the last issue of Trends.

I wasn't the biggest fan either, I haven't bought either magazine in over a year simply for storage reasons as I already have two LARGE rubbermaid containers full.

I also heard ERCO was going under. Any other VW places closing up shop?

Matt I don't think ERCO is going under I think Eric is just fed up with the BS in dealing with some of the people. Don't get me wrong it's still a huge loss if he shuts down. I was hoping Airspeed would take over for him!?!?Geoff???? A nice little garage full of parts in Blaine Wa or something?? wayne

\"Guys,

I wanted you guys to be the first to know: Primedia has decided to cancel the publication of VWTrends, effective immediately.

Believe me when I say that this doesn't come as a big shock to me. The writing has been on the wall for months and I've tried to fight it. Over the past many months, you may have noticed that the number of ads in the magazine was steadily dwindling from around 40 pages to less than 20 pages in the March 05 issue (which won't even be printed I hear). Because of this, it was decided that after 28 years and 268 issues (65 of which I was the editor) in print, VWTrends was no longer worth the financial effort. In short, it was killed because nobody bothered to pay attention to it.

Since many of you on this list write/shoot for me (and most of which are owed money, I'm sure), I no longer have any authority to issue checks. However, tomorrow I plan to speak with Howard Lim (my ex-publisher) to find out what it takes to set you all straight. I don't want any of you to have to sacrifice because Primedia demands higher profits. Others of you advertised in the magazine, and if you've prepaid because of a contract, I'm sure you'll get a refund. Check with your ad rep to get that straightened out. But all of you, I just wanted to say good bye to.

Because of a family emergency today, I was out of the office, so I got laid off over the phone (so much for five years of loyalty); I wasn't given the opportunity to say a formal good bye to my co-workers and friends I've made along the way, so here I am at 1am on my wife's computer. I would like to thank you all for supporting me over the years, for answering my asinine questions, for always smiling for the camera, for putting up with my pestering tech articles, my odd ideas and my sometimes off-the-wall editorials... but most of all, I'd like to thank you all for accepting me and for helping me bring to the readers the best magazine possible. When I started this job, I didn't know a whole lot about Volkswagens, but you've all helped me become the enthusiast that I am today, and before I drift off into the sunset, I want to simply say thank you.

Just remember what I've always said, \"People will never appreciate VWTrends until it is gone.\"
Well, now it's gone.

Maybe I'll see you around,
Ryan Price\"
