Classic Car Movies
« on: November 16, 2004, 02:26:52 PM »
Just watched American Graffiti for about the 100th time! I can't help myself everytime it is on I gotta watch it.

It got me thinking about what other classic car movies are out there. So lets here some of your favorites!

Ya gotta like 'The Blues Brothers'. Lets see, the opening scene, cop car chase scenes, driving through the mall for a snack scene, etc

Come on G, I'm surprised you forgot the opening scene,
Jake:
What's this?

Elwood:
What?

Jake:
This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?

Elwood:
The what?

Jake:
The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!

Elwood:
I traded it.

Jake:
You traded the Blues Mobile for this?

Elwood:
No. For a microphone.

Jake:
A microphone? Okay I can see that. Well what the hell is this?

Elwood:
This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City Police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect Police Car. They were practically giving them away.

Jake:
Well thank you pal, the day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car.

[Fog horn and warning bell sounds]

Elwood:
You don't like it?

Jake:
No, I don't like it.

[Elwood drives over a raising draw bridge]

Jake:
Cars got a lot of pick up.

Elwood:
It's got a cop motor of four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tyres, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what?

Jake:
Fix the cigarette lighter.

Then theres the cast...
Famous people in the cast

*   Frank Oz   - Prison Officer (Behind window)
*   Cab Calloway   - Curtis
*   James Brown   - Reverend Cleophis
*   Irene Cara (Chaka Khan)   - Church soloist
*   John Landis   - Cop in the first over-turned cop car
*   John Candy   - Mr Mercer (parole officer)
*   Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman)   - Wine Waiter
*   John Lee Hooker - Musician on Maxwell St
*   Aretha Franklin - Matt \"Guitar\" Murphy's wife
*   The three backing singers are her sisters.
*   Ray Charles - Owner of \"Ray's Music Exchange\"
*   Twiggy - Blonde in sports car
*   Steven Spielberg - Cook County Assessor
*   Joe Walsh (from the Eagles) - First prisoner to jump on table

....sorry about the rant

LOL! nice one Ian. Yeah I have a soft spot for the cop cars
My car before

and after,

Oh yeah, If you decide to buy a used cop car make sure you take ALL the decals off! that includes the one in the trunk. Seems when you cross the border with a white caprice with decals in side the trunk lid they tend to think you may have stolen it?

Dont ask.

\"Le Mans\" made in 1971.
Steve McQueen takes you for a drive in the country. The country is France. The drive is at 200 MPH!
If you like car race movies, this is the one to see. Technically accurate, compared to most car race movies. Lots of Porsche 917s.
A total guy movie, not a girl friendly film!

Deathrace 2000, is pretty hilarious, and lots of vw based kit cars, sly stallone is one of the stars in this one.

Gumball Rally, I think was filmed in 77 or so

Speed Zone, and Days of Thunder, but those arent classics yet.

Rendezvous. Claude LeLouche ripping across Paris at dawn in a Ferrari. One continous take from a nose cam, no special effects, no closed off streets, highly illegal. An \"underground\" cult film since it was made in 1976, it's now available on DVD. 9 minutes long and absolutely amazing.
