Jaime, most places shouldn't care about a lowered car, unless it was done in an unsafe manor. I just had my 535i (not lowered) VI'd at Midway Tire in Surrey. They were good to deal with.

I don't know how easy going they are. I just made sure everything was working, and safe. I've been through a few VI's, mainly from importing US cars, or Canadian imports. I also used to perform VI's when I was spinning wrenches for a living. What I learned is this....if you can't pass a VI, your car is unsafe, and needs service. Why not just fix it, and make it pass? Personally, I don't want wrecks on the road, putting myself, and my family/friends in danger, do you?

Not to be a nag, but think about it.

I have to agree with Al, if it isn't safe then it shouldnt be on the road, i'm about to go through a Vi with a van i've bought and despite my impatience about getting it on the road and the potential extra cost involved if it fails i would much rather continue to get up early and ride public transport with its interesting customers than have something go undetected and cause either grief or worse to my family or someone else's.

This isn't completely true.
When I was shopping around for a place to do an inspection, the guy at CDN Tire said you fail if your headliner is ripped. WTF is that?/?? How does that make my car an unsafe wreck (BTW, I have no rips in my headliner)

The next place saw my car was lowered slightly. Now anyone that's seen my car will realize mine is no where near as low as most modified Bugs. The guy said it won't pass. How does that make my car unsafe?

Technically every car with a narrowed beam won't pass inspection. Is that unsafe?

If you have a single bullseye chip in your windshield way over on the right side, you might as well crush your car, its a danger to all others on the road.

If you have more that 3 inch rip in your driver seat it is failed! Because (this is good) Should you have a chain or any other piece of clothing on your body, And you roll the car you might not be able to get out of the Vehicale due the \"Chain or piece of clothing\" snaging the seat spring!!

....and the logic behind the ripped headliner fail is that it could fall and obscure your vision. Slap a piece of duct tape on the headliner and a blanket on the seat and problem solved. I'm not 100% sure but I think most of the hot rodders go to Rick at Delta Propane (86th & 121st) for VI's. From what I have heard as long as the car is mechanically and structurally sound he is leniant on the small stuff. It would make sence that a shop isn't going to risk their licence to pass a car that isn't safe.

When I was doing VI's, the inspector guys always told me that the logic behind the ripped seat fail is that it can \"cause driver fatigue\". Ummm, sure.

Anyway, I think what will happen most often, is that the guy will look at the car, see something lowered or modified, and then assume(bad thing to do) it's a hack job. Most shops don't want to go near it. In all honesty, if I was still doing VI, and I saw an old Bug that had been modified, I doubt I would touch it either.

All that being said, I have also heard that Rick at Delta Propane is pretty good as well. He did a couple 02's for me a few years back, but I haven't used him since.

She didnt' even look at the car, or anything.

its safe, it was lowered proper, no body part is lower than the bottom of any rim. New interior, all lights work, tires good, etc etc.

I can't even keep my rabbit or truck truely straight on the #1 around there :unsure:
