now to replace the clutch assembly on a 65 (pressure plate,t/o bearing, disc).

there is a kit available with all three parts, would it just bolt on or would it need special adjusting (apart from the cable) or fitting?

should I keep it stock or go to a 1700lb clutch, with the 1700lb would it fit a stock flywheel or is it too big?

with a 1700lb ( a little confused by the description) would I still use a throw out bearing??

any advice would be good as I have never had to replace a clutch before.

when your in there you should replace:
clutch disc
pressure plate
throw-out bearing
is it the original motor? or has it been replaced?
give us a call and we can figure out exactly what you need
we should have everything in stock

look at danny, airspeed sales rep extraordinaire!  :D

you'll need a clutch centering tool too, but don't bother spending any money on one. broom handle ends work quite nicely, thank you very much.  ;)
Sometimes I get the feeling the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that's not true. Some smaller countries are neutral.

don't worry danny, I buy all my stuff at airspeed ;)

I don't think it is the original engine, the DP heads are probably a good indicator.
I think I might have a broom handle I can scavange!

If it's a dual port it probably has a 200 mm clutch and fly wheel and car has been converted to 12V   .   A 1700lb clutch will work  but really not necessary on a stock motor,  unless later you plan to go to a bigger motor.  While your in there change the flywheel oil seal and o-ring.   I have a spare input shaft you can borrow if you need to center clutch.    Marcel

Ok, so I got the engine out today and took the clutch off, the clutch disc looks fine but the pressure plate does not look quite right, it is a later model, and some off the spring thingys around the center look to be bent out of order and shape   I am assuming this would cause a definite problem for the engaging and disengaging of the clutch, but how did this happen???? any ideas how it could get bent????

I tried that....they ALWAYS find out!

I'd say wear and tear on the pressure plate - Might as well put in all new stuff so your not pulling back apart in 6-12 months.

well, put the clutch in today, now it makes like a squealing or whining noise when the clutch is pushed in, I am assuming it is just because it is new, any ideas???? other then that the car works and shifts better then it did and is much easier to drive B)

P.S. the clutch alignment tool was only like 4 bucks and some change so no broom handles were hurt in this operation!!!

I haven't heard the noise myself it could even be the fan belt as far as I know, I replaced the clutch for my buddy this morning, we took it for a test spin and everything was cool, but I had talked to him this evening and he just described the noise it had started to make to me, so I will keep you posted when I check it out in a couple days, we replaced the pressure plate and clutch disc and neglected the T/O bearing   it looked to be in good shape as did the flywheel. In hind sight we should have replaced it as well. I guess it will be a live and learn experience if the T/O bearing is the issue!
