Drivers Wanted...not Just Collectors.
« on: August 30, 2004, 05:23:20 PM »
I'm curious to see how many people here actually drive their air-cooled's as real cars, or do most of you have Trailer Queen/Show Cars.

See, sure I have a Super Beetle and I get a lot of ribbing for that, but the fact of the matter is I drive it. Every day. I generally do two to four 7-hour road-trips in it per month, and drive it daily. Sure, the paint is looking a liitle grim, but I drive it and live the life.

I was wondering how many people in this grand hobby of ours actually use their cars for the purpose they were intended - good affordable daily transportation... or am I missing out by not having a Beetle that never sees the road?

not judgemental at all...just wondering.

I didn't build mine to be a daily, I only drive it on weekends. A number of years back I daily drove a 73 beetle - now I can afford not to.

if I were to do the daily driver in a vw I'd want a notch or a bay to do it in.

I'm thinking we need something like a Hot Rod power tour but for aircooled VW's .  Killer street / strip  and show cars and every day cars too . Drive them some where , race them and /or show them ,  then DRIVE them back home.

Hey!  how bout the Classic  every June in California ?

Why do it once when you can do it thrice?

if you saw it in person you probably would not see the big deal,it's solid but by no means a show car (we need a daily driver class at the great canadian)
i may be up to a trip to the classic next year :)

RichieB rocks the drive to Spokane in his beetle one to two times per month in addition to daily commuting. His car sees more miles than most new vehicles. He is super beetle tech man, he built the car from the ground up in Quebec. When he built it it was one of the oldest and best cars for sale in that area. If he or when he becomes a literary magnate he promises to purchase a comprehensive collection of type 3's, early buses and the like. For the mean time he walks the walk.
