Vanagon Transmission Rebuild - Shop recommendations
« on: February 14, 2017, 04:23:19 PM »
Thought I'd ask here!

Looking for a competent shop or person to rebuild my 1984 Vanagon transmission and install a different R&P as well as a Peloquin LSD.

Thanks for the help!

Budget $$$  ??

I am thinking of doing something ( with h/d pts and LS diff) and will likely go down south  35% dollar premium and all.  I will probably deal direct and not through any local 3rd party.

You may be able to find something used but decent locally that has had the common problems fixed.  3rd/4th acting up??

Not a huge issue to add the Peloquin.  There are folks here that can do the install.

get a hold of Barry Guscott at Werke1  He had mine done by a guy who was trained through the military specifically on Vanagons

I don't really have a budget, I just want quality work done and I'll pay more to have it done properly.

No, the transmission isn't acting up, no "common problems" as you say.  However I'm doing an engine swap and adding a diff, so I might as well have the rest of the trans gone through.
